Me, I have a .338 Lapua Magnum on my Christmas list. And a scope like the Bushnell Elite Tactical3 12x44. (Ain’t gonna happen, but a guy can dream, right?) PS- Why? Because it is just so d*mned cool, that’s why.

It is cool. Which Lapua? I happened to be looking at the Savage web pages and they have a pretty nice one, and it's a lot less expensive than some of the ones I've seen out there. I think it's $1300 or something. The amount that is being charged for some of guns chambered in .338 LM is kinda ridiculous. It's got a muzzle break, an adjustable stock and a big box magazine.

“I always wanted to do the rifleman thing”

There was/is a youtube where they show various semi-autos in use (AR15, AK47’s, etc.). Then this guy in his cowboy hat and 30/30 lever comes in. Looked like he kept up an okay rate of fire. And while moving to the next target was reloading the tube on the run/walk.

There might be a case for having an “old style” lever gun over an evil black gun when the FED comes looking. But I’m guessing that will be the time to USE the gun rather than hiding it.

>>For tubular magazine lever action rifles. For example, I have a BLR w/detachable mags.

Yeah, so do I (mine is a .308). But the BLR is a freak in the lever-action world. There is also a pump-action rifle out there chambered in .30-30 (Savage 170), but I was making a short statement and there’s no point in including footnotes describing all the freaks in the gun world like the BLR and 170 just to prove my encyclopedic knowldege of guns.

It’s called dialogue. You prefer monologue?

“the 30-30 is a carbine that shoots essentially pistol ammo. “

I think you are confusing .30 Carbine (7.62x33) with 30-30 wcf

It was to let the Navy use the new US standard ammo 7.62x51 it works .. ok but some times the invert gets dragged out of chamber which is not so good...

I have both - both are outatsnding within their envelopes. The 30-30 has taken more whitetails that any other caliber. It is perfect for moderate range (woods) deer hunting. It is at it’s best in lever action carbines, and absolutely shines in that role. To me, it’s strongest suit, it REALLY annoys the bunch that thinks you need a 460 Weatherby Magnum with a 20X scope to take a 100 pound doe.
The 30-06 is awesomely versitile. It can reach out much further than the 30-30 and can (if used properly) take anything on the North American continent down. And - IT annoys the “magnumitis” crowd.
