The Delta Terminal at LAX should be on any worst list.

It’s been a long time, but I HATED the terminals at Newark. All I can remember is that each seat had these little B/W televisions on them, and that they took quarters ... but there was no place to get the quarters! Grey, depressing, horrible acoustics ... Dante would have included it had Virgil shown it to him.

Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria should have been on that list. It’s so bad the FAA refused to certify it for access by American air carriers. Avoided it for 12 years on the African continent, only to be stuck there on the final flight out. The place damned near killed me. WAWA!

I nominate Kilimanjaro International Airport outside Arusha, Tanzania, as one of the worst.

Kigali International in Kigali, Rwanda, is not a garden spot, either, although Kigali City is a vibrant, booming city since the genocide ended.

Amsterdam Schipol is one of the best.

Detroit International Airport is beautiful now - go figure.

Midway Airport in Chicago has been renovated and really does not deserve to be on the list. The International Terminal at ORD Chicago is dismal and should be on the list.

I must be the only one who likes Midway. O’Hare, on the other hand, is just awful.

“2. Manila, Philippines Airport Terminal 1”

I travel to the RP on business and family matters.

Hands down the most corrupt terminal in the world. Where on earth are you able to “pay cash” just to use the toilet, for tissue in the toilet, and just to “process the passport”? You lost something? You have to pay cash to the security guys. Not only that, these cretins try to harass you outside just for the sake of bringing your stuff to your destination.

Not even NY’s JFK can do that.

The good news is that Delta is under going a $1.2 million renovation project to be completed by 2013.

Only $1.2 million? That won't go very far!

Incheon Airport in Seoul is very nice. I had a wad of Korean cash from my business there and was able to get some very nice gifts for the family during my wait. The daily flight (KAL/Delta) to ORD was very convenient.

My worst experience was the international terminal at Miami. It's not their fault in a way, it's just too busy. Everything in the Caribbean and South America seems to go through there. I remember a poor guy near the back of the line who was desperate to get checked in because his flight was leaving. He was pleading for people to let him jump the line. We let him through. This was back in 1985. I'm not sure it would happen that way today.

For a major airport, I’d vote Fiumicino as the worst - crowded and very confusing. When they were doing construction on De Gaul it was pretty bad, too. Johannesburg is really nice. Hong Kong is cool cause you can get on a train without ever leaving the terminal and be in the heart of downtown in 20 minutes - Blade Runner meets Disneyland...

It looks like I'm one of very few people who doesn't expect anything actually “enjoyable” at an airport terminal.I've seen a fair number of terminals in my day...US,Europe and elsewhere, including the Third World. The only ones that stand out in my mind as being particularly good or bad are Hong Kong (the new one,not Kai Tak which,IMO,was just OK) and Dubai. Both were good IMO,very possibly because both are relatively new.

It’s an older airport, but MSP is a very nice place for a layover. Lots of decent restaurants and if you have to spend a night in an airport, you really can’t beat it.

I like my local airport, Kona International. Unless you try hard like going to the head, you are never indoors. No air conditioning, no luxury lounges, no jetways. They even make you walk up a ramp or steps to get in and out of planes! The horror of such a 3rd world airport.

My personal favorite is Munich. There’s a beer garden in the terminal! Bottom is Rome - chaotic, dirty, flights are never on-time, and half of the time your luggage gets lost.
