when I am replaced at work by an ille--ooops- undocumented worker, I can survive on unemployment for years, saving money by not buying gas to drive to work

It doesn’t matter. There is no possibility of conviction by the Senate no matter what the facts are. The Senate Democrats are more loyal to their party than the Constitution or the rule of law. Did the Republic withstand FDR? The seeds of socialism were widely sown. The demographics and economic expansion of the late twentieth century allowed the day of reckoning to be put off.
Instead of recognizing the looming bankruptcy of social security, the socialists have doubled-down with medicare, medicaid, Obamacare, food stamps, guaranteed student loans, "renewable" energy, and many other equally foolish policies. We did not survive FDR.
Much as a cancerous tumor begins with a single malformed cell, our economic and social demise began with an innocent looking localized change with disastrous consequences.
