Vanity copy of blog comments on Intrade blog: It's Bush's Fault

I'm amazed that the president got away with blaming Bush for so long. In one respect I agree with him. The reason why Romney lost tonight is Bush's fault.

Bush knew in 2006 that his VP Dick Cheney would not run for president. There would be no heir apparent. He handed over the process to the GOP, who promptly tried to push Rudy McRomney onto the electorate. Rudy was dispensed with, way too liberal. McCain was given his chance... yikes, what a crappy candidate. And then Romney was given his chance. All of them were losers. And it's all Bush's fault.

Bush should have asked Cheney to resign due to health reasons (he had heart problems) in 2006, and appointed the next political heir, whoever that would have been. Such an appointment to VP would have been worth more than any SCOTUS appointment. There would have been no Rudy McRomney GOP-E power vaccuum. No "identity crisis" like what's being suggested by Fox News right now on TV. Now they're talking about Jeb Bush as a rising centrist star. Why would america vote for democrat lite? That strategy has been repudiated.

At any rate, congratulations to president Obama on another (surprisingly) well run campaign. I join Mitt Romney in "fervently praying" for America.

To: Irish Rose I've been saying that Bush should ask Cheney to resign for health reasons and nominate Duncan Hunter for VP. Even if DH doesn't get ratified, the publicity will put him in tier1, and Bush manages to give the party a clear direction. It would be an appointment worth more than the supreme court.

Bush’s heir - some guy named Jeb - is now the likely winner in 2016. Maybe GWB had it all planned.

That’s what the GOP will be pushing, and they’ll really pressure JimRob to endorse him. Just like JimRob felt pressure to endorse someone he called a “lying, baby-killing, gun-grabbing statist”, someone who just lost handily because he was so ‘electable’.

It’s the people’s fault. Too many who don’t appreciate individualism, the Constitution and free enterprise have decided to not fire one of the worst government employees ever. We now have to weather the coming storm. Perhaps that’s what it will take, a super-storm of taxes, bureaucracy and loss of health privacy to reboot. I’m not giving up yet, disheartened as I am at the moment.

At this point, I’m not sure, even if Romney had won, that anything less than professional careers and a paid-for house for everyone wouldn’t have brought Obama back for a second term in 2016. Can you see it now? Another “historical” election, first black president to serve two non-consecutive terms! Vote for Obama, so that you can feel like 2008 all over again!

For the next four years, Obama’s fan club, aka, the MSM, will find out how irrelevant they are to him. He doesn’t need them anymore, and I don’t think he’ll care if they know it. It might even get downright interesting.

It’s the people’s fault.
***In one respect, Romney was right about the 47%: We’re now at the same point in our history as the Romans were when they were putting out “circuses and free bread” to distract the public from real issues. Notably, that point came in Roman history well AFTER the republic had died and the empire was spawned.

Agreed, just stop this foolishness. How can you go back six years and blame it all on George W. Bush when in two election cycles, the party itself has done everything possible to lose?

They picked McCain in 2008 and undermined Sarah Palin who is the only reason McCain got any support at all. McCain did his part by spending the bulk of his campaign telling the voters how great a guy Obama is. We got Obama as a result.

This time around, the party knocked all the conservatives out of the way to pick Romeny, but then gave up on him and were already talking Jeb Bush in '16, when Romney smashed Obama in the first debate and made a bold move. Slowly but surely, though, they had him pull back and then the storm hit and there went RINO Chris Christie putting the final knives in our backs by making Obama look like The MAN. Never mind that The MAN watched Americans die in an attack and did nothing, and that his administration saw a storm coming and didn't have water for days or a plan to deal with it. The GOPe wanted to make sure they were working together across the aisle during a crisis. Costing the election was small potatoes against looking mean and partisan.

So cut the crap about Bush not dumping Cheney in 2006. He could have reanimated Ronald Reagan and it wouldn't have made any difference. Until you understand that the GOPe hates conservatives more than the RATS and will bend over backwards to play nice, you will continue to spout foolishness like this.

Are you kidding? Do the math.

Even if none of the other guys ran, Mitt still loses. No one is to blame but the Republican Party and those who lead it.

A third party may be the best thing to happen to the GOP and America.

Old title
Vanity It’s Bush’s Fault

Difference:
copy of blog comments on Intrade blog:

Change in title was provided by FR. Just like FR is not a blog, Intrade is not a blog. And what is the point of changing the original title?

If you think about it, the reason the vice presidency has been considered such a vestigial appendage of the Constitution is that it is essentially the role of Crown Prince of the Republic. He has no inherent authority, he has only the prestige of the fact that he is the political heir of the POTUS.
Like FDR before him, Obama has never stopped running, successfully, against his Republican predecessor - and he never will. If there is anyone who would have made a juicy target of Obama’s negativity it would have been the political heir of George W. Bush.
If you want to second guess George W. Bush - and if you look at my registration date and my handle you will realize that I was not a Bush man before he won the nomination - you would IMHO have to second guess decisions such as the retreat from the “sixteen words” which were absolutely true stating that
In his January 2003 State of the Union speech, U.S. President George W. Bush said, "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.”
That determination seems to have been wrong, but the British government had indeed made that determination.

When 911 hit, and after initial confusion wire service journalism recovered its “above the fray” unpatriotic stance and said that the Pentagon was “a legitimate target” of terrorists, Bush should have pointed out that although the Geneva Conventions would protect captured enemy combatants in uniform who has attacked the Pentagon after a declaration of war by a state of known address, the US government itself was legitimate - and within the United States there were laws against attacking soldiers.

Bush should have had his diplomatic ducks in a row with Turkey before assuming that he could invade Iraq from Turkish soil. That might have dissuaded him from trying the invasion in the first place. But having once successfully invaded, he should have declared martial law in Iraq - and, once more, denied that the US was obligated to recognize as legitimate any attack on American soldiers by people not in uniform. Their presence in a foreign country notwithstanding.

Bush should never have allowed the naming of a special persecutor in the Valerie Plame affair. Never. And as to Colin Powell . . .

It’s not as if Bush never did anything right; the “Bush tax cuts” come to mind. But in general he signally failed to stand up for himself - which would have required running at wire service journalism - and in so doing he signally failed to protect the Republican Party.

And, be it now remembered, Bush signed McCain-Feingold. Which presumes to make it illegal for the people to criticize their elected officials in print during political campaigns!!

Ridiculous.

No one directly tied to the Bush administration had a hope in Heaven or Hell in 2008.

Since W is still blamed by voters four years later, it IS Bush's fault but I still believe John F Kerry would not have been reelected.

Americans didn't want to fire the first black POTUS which was the wild card factor none could overcome.

This isn't on Romney. It's the Bush legacy, the race card and some evangelical bigotry against Mormons.
