The one thing that seemed obvious to me in this election is that Romney had the distinct disadvantage of having to campaign in the shadow of George W. Bush's legacy. Republicans, having allowed Democrats to define Bush's legacy as a failure, have to carry the weight of that legacy.
Perhaps the only way to fix this is to go back and embrace the Bush legacy and correct the record. So long as Obama can blame Bush, it will be difficult to go back to some of Bush's policies that worked, because they've all been tainted by the Democrats as failures.
Indeed...I join the left in blaming Bush. I detest Bush for the Patriot Act. Type all the hatred at me you want but Bush was ****.
Bush would have had us hooked up with Mexico 9ways to Sunday if 9/11 didn’t happen. Bush wouldn’t have made a second term if not for 9/11.
Nice fella but he really wasn’t all that great of a president. And we pay for it now. It is revenge.
Let’s see: Wide open borders for eight years under Bush in order to please Walmart and now hispanics give Obama the win. Hmm. Yeah, I DO blame Bush for that.
Democrats created the no look affirmative action loans that sunk banks, not Bush. Yet W gets the blame which is unfair.
Same thing happened to Reagan and W’s dad lost to Clinton when Carter’s laws sunk tons of banks and they were being bailed out all through Bush 1’s Presidency. They blamed Bush 1 and not Carter by giving Clinton the win and Perot the assist.
Romney did promise to secure the border the first year if elected. In some circles that might have not been pleasing to hear, but it would have been the right thing to do.
I agree. The compassionate conservative set the stage.
Romney on immigration.
My jaw dropped when I saw Mitt denying his illegals in the 2007 debate, and was not surprised what came of it a week later.
Governor Mitt, with all of his state resources and security, were interacting with the Guatemalan illegals at their private home for 10 years. The landscaper that the illegals worked for, was a naturalized Colombian himself, (A naturalized Colombian, Guatemalan illegals, and a sitting Governor), IDs better have been checked.
In December of 2006, the republican Governor was exposed, and suffered national embarrassment for using illegals for 10 years.
In December of 2007, in a national debate, Rudy Giuliani accused Mitt Romney of having run a Sanctuary Mansion. On national TV, Mitt Romney indignantly denied the claim.
A few days after the debate, the Boston Globe decided to look again at Mitts house, and guess what, they found Guatemalan illegals, they were working for the same Colombian, MITT HAD NEVER FIRED THEM!
Ten years and a national scandal, turned into 11 years, and a second national scandal, with all the same players, the same contractor, Guatemalan illegals, and the same Mitt Romney and his wife interacting with them at their home during the week.
Bush was right there before 9/11 making good with Mexico. If 9/11 didn’t happen...well
Jeb is right there to pick it up. Enjoy. I am done with them all.
I blame Bush as much as any lefty. He was a nice guy that failed us big time. But four years on that’s no excuse for Obama, especially since he has made exactly the same mistakes as Bush but on a far grander scale.
Bingo!
“Ws dad lost to Clinton” because he was a RINO who reneged on his pledge to not raise taxes. It’s as simple as that.
