Dear Bruce (Springsteen) - Obama won't save the working class or the Jersey shore
Al Jazeera ^ | 11-6-2012 | Mark LeVine (Not to be confused with The Great One)

It was a touching image, especially for someone like me who grew up in a racially charged city in northern New Jersey, for whom Bruce Springsteen and Clarence Clemons constituted a singular image of a post-racist future even as local cops could still harass and brutalise young black men with relative impunity...

Whether or not you voted for Obama in 2008, it was hard not to be teary-eyed on election night watching an African American man win the presidency of a country that during his lifetime was still routinely lynching black men...

That things haven't turned out quite as most people who voted for Obama had hoped they would is an understatement. For those who support the President, the reasons given for the failure to bring about significant change outside of healthcare vary from a hostile Congress to an over-willingness to compromise on core issues, to a system that's just too big and entrenched to change in a generation, never mind four years...

Such arguments do not give Obama enough credit for having a vision and in fact implementing it during his first term - of both crafting a vision for and reshaping American society to a specifically conservative, technocratic vision that will disempower the working class, minorities and ultimately all non-elite Americans as much and quite possibly more than would the policies of his Republican opponent...

In two recent articles (here and here), long-time Democratic operative Matt Stoller lays out a damning indictment against Obama for betraying the progressive vision that helped elect him even before he assumed Office, beginning with his veto during the transition of a plan to write down mortgages and forestall foreclosures (which would have saved the homes of many hundreds of thousands of Americans) and continuing with his failure to act on promises to increase minimum wage, prevent the hiring of replacement workers and support labour protections in the FAA bill...

Moreover, Obama's utter inaction on the single most dangerous threat to the planet - climate change - early in his term while he still had significant political capital to expend will go down as one of the worst presidential decisions of the post-War era. On the other hand, the President's all-out assault on civil liberties, whistle blowers, and habeas corpus, the ongoing war on drugs and large-scale incarceration of young (and especially young minority) men, his increased deportations of undocumented immigrants, promotion of extra-judicial murder and indefinite detention of anyone, anywhere - including American citizens - his continued support of brutal authoritarian governments across the world (note to Bruce: Apartheid didn't end with the release of Nelson Mandela as you declared; it is alive and well in American allies like Israel and Bahrain), ramping up of oil and gas production while abandoning far-sighted plans to make renewable energy production a centrepiece of the US economy, are all threatening some of the most fundamental constitutional protections Americans have enjoyed for two centuries. At the same time, they are laying the groundwork for a US economy even more dominated by the petroleum and related industries than it already is, with all the ecological and political dangers a "petro-state" would create.

F### the Jersey shore, the rest of Jersey, and the remainder of the Northeast for that matter.

From here on out, my compassion for blue state disaster victims is nil as well. I hope the next nor’easter drowns a bunch more of them. Watching them suffer will be considered prime time entertainment from now on. They were too stupid to avoid a storm that the entire world knew was coming FOR A WEEK and their comrades were too stupid to get rid of a literal Marxist hell-bent on destroying this country.

Never again will I send a penny to anyone in a blue state. You want the government to do everything for you? Fine...the next time you’re in trouble just ring up Obama on your Obama phone and see how far that gets you. As far as I am concerned, anyone who rejected freedom for government dependence should never again receive an ounce of private charity. They have demonstrated that they don’t want it and I will never again be in a mood to provide it to them.

Harsh? Not considering what they have just done to us and unwittingly, themselves. Your friends, coworkers, and family members have just betrayed you and they didn’t even receive 30 pieces of silver, just an Obamaphone. Let the true depth of what they have just done sink in for a few days and see if you don’t agree.

Give BamBam and Bruce what they want along with all wealthy NFL and NBA owners and players and Hollywood communists! Raise their taxes. It is what they want. Obama does not pay enough taxes. He said so. Let’s see his tax plan and have him show the American people how much he and Bruce will be paying to help pay for the freebies that cannot be cut from the budget. Cut military spending. Give the Obama voters what they want. Close Gitmo and release the prisoners. We don’t need trials. Let those people go to Libya and wherever else so they can take care of Obama’s weapons redistribution issues. Raise taxes on stores such as Target and WalMart. Those companies make their profits off of the poor and middle class. I could just go on and on with ideas for alleviating the guilt felt by wealthy Americans such as Obama and Bruce.

I was embarrassed by this guy. I thought he had a lot more class and was more of a man. All I saw was him groveling to Obama. I should have known.

My Jersey friend tells me he wouldn’t even have the Springsteen Museum built in NJ, much less his own hometown of Asbury Park, so what the hell does he care about those people?

Bump from the "blue" State of MN - let us burn, I have no excuse, explanation or anything - we deserve your wrath.

Personally, I'm sorry, my family and friends did our best and hope we could possibly stay at your place when our blue state receives what is coming.

Don't know what else to say right now :(

Your post is a little ridiculous, not to mention un-charitable and un-Christian.

There are many, many, millions of people here who are conservative and vote republican ALL THE TIME.

Staten Island, one of the hardest hit areas during Sandy, is the last holdout of conservatism in NYC.

I see Obama’s plan for dividing America is having its desired effect on you.

Which is fine, keep you money and everything else. We don’t need any help from the likes of you.

Maybe we can work out a code word or hand signal you guys can use to let the rest of us know that you’re not one of “them.” When the media’s covering your disaster du jour, maybe you can make your way into the TV live shot and give us the sign so we’ll know to throw a little aid your way...lol.

I’m trying to muster a little humor, but it isn’t easy. At any rate, you’re welcome at my place any time, and no need to apologize for your efforts. We all did everything humanly possible. That’s what worries me the most. This was a Herculean effort by us on the right. It was an unprecedented mobilization and yet we didn’t even come close. I don’t know how we can ever win again given these results. Even if everyone is living in cardboard boxes by 2016, Obama will convince them that it’s still Bush’s fault and they’ll vote in droves for Hillary or whoever else the dems throw at them.

It’s really nauseating. Don’t think I’m going to work tomorrow because I really can’t hold my tongue if I encounter a gloating Obama zombie right now.

Jocon, you’re absolutely right and I apologize. Just venting because I don’t know what else to do right now. This isn’t just another election loss or an “oh well, we’ll get ‘em next time” kind of moment. We’re truly headed for destruction now and relatively soon.

The most troubling part is that we now can see that beyond any doubt half the country is suicidal and once Obama finally, mercifully leaves one day there is no evidence that the same morons won’t elect someone as bad or worse. It’s like we’re passengers on one of those ill-fated flights on 9/11, with a crazed Jihadi at the controls and the cockpit door locked. The difference is that in our case half the passengers are cheering the terrorist on.

Thank You

I did everything I could. I was an election Judge today. Got to the polls at 5:45 Am and worked until I got home at 11:30 PM (7.50/hour).

My county is RED, we won by a bunch but to no avail.

I personally referred one lady that had a "zero" button on in the election place and refused to remove it for prosecution. (I'm guessing its going nowhere but I'm listed as the complainant).

We also had one lady cuffed and arrested for taking pictures of license plates in the parking lot. It turns out through my independent resources that she has some other "international" problems that we won't go into.

Our voting place was in a church and we were forced to remove a banner reading "Believe in the Father" from the ceiling.

To top it off ... I personally received 2 write in votes for State Rep - an office I am not seeking. Apparently people like me!

Be an Election Judge next time .... its fun!

Thanks noiseman, apology accepted!

I agree, this was a devastating loss.

But I don’t think we can blame Christie or even the “blue” states.

I expected O to win NY, NJ, etc. It is VA, and OH, etc that upset me.

TRUTH: I’m selling my (measly) mutual funds tomorrow. I needed the money but I might have held on if R pulled it out.

I agree that there was far more going on than what Christie did. There was a clear age divide - 45 on up voted for Romney, 18-44 voted for Obama. That’s a ratio that will only tip farther in the libs’ favor as the responsible half of America ages and passes on.

I have thought for a long time that the front line in this war is the education system. The only chance is to work on the next generation or two and hopefully turn out more responsible and informed citizens. Unfortunately, Democrats have turned schools into liberal indoctrination factories. We absolutely have to continue efforts to take the fight to the schools because once they turn out newly-minted zombies, we have lost them for another generation.

Well, you should be proud then that you received two more deserved votes than Obama did.
