I won't hold my breath seeing how even with Sandy there are still even FReepers who are mock and deny the need to prep. One of the worse did come forward on one post and grudgingly agree that 3-4 days of stuff was probably OK, but any more was crazy and unneeded waste.

The proplems are not limited to the anti-preparation pollyannas. Who could forget the behavior prior to the storm.

Preppers are mocked and laughed at until disaster hits then everyone comes knocking on our door for help. I don’t give it unless it’s to another prepper.

We got hit by that massive storm on June 29. We had electricity, clean water, and decent comfort. We also had a LOT of people wanting to use our resources for their own needs.

Sorry, I prepared for myself and my family. Not the neighborhood. When it comes down to it, you are responsible for yourself... no one else.

Will Stephen Colbert apologize to Glenn Beck and preppers?

Worst case scenario if Obama wins, he will outlaw prepping, form a 24 hour snitch line with rewards of who is hoarding and also brigades of “Youth Corps” to go out on confiscation patrols.

In that list needing to print official apologies, do NOT forget the so-called Janet the 2nd’s Department of Homeland Security, for including ‘preppers’ as ‘homegrown terrorists’!!!

The government talk has already begun with the word, ‘hoarding’, instead of ‘stockpiling’ food, although it is a practice among the LDS church.

No doubt that Sandy will be responsible for recruiting many new ‘Preppers’.

Preppers would have heeded evacuation orders and had:

1 - Their “Bug Out” gear ready,

2 - An alternate destination to survive.

Obama is not going to offer apologies to these preppers.
He will take these preppers stuff and give it away to others who did not prep

What we are seeing is what will happen country wide if power goes out all over the country, no matter what caused it. When there is no power, there is no gasoline and won’t be any until power is restored. Bad guys, as we have seen here, are limited to the area where they can walk. A few have cars but that is the exception and if gas wasn’t coming back, they wouldn’t have those cars to use for travel.

In other words, without power and fuel, the country stops and no one is going anywhere without walking there and if there is no water and food, they die where they are. Some people may have bicycles but that is local travel and without water and food, that also stops.

In New York, in my opinion, Mayor Bloomberg is responsible for every person the bad guys kill just as if he did it as no one is allowed to have a gun except the bad guys. The easiest for the bad guys to kill are the elderly. There is not enough law enforcement to stop the killing and robbing and without citizens having guns, they are helpless and are murdered in their houses or on the street.

If the entire country is without power, the above scenario will repeat itself across the country – except in those states where people have guns. Bad guys will stop or die in those states. The more preppers there are in a carry state, the safer the state will be.

If I lived in New York City, I would make every effort to leave there and go to a carry area or state. And, no matter where I lived, I would be a prepper to create my own world in case the outside world collapsed, which it just did in the northeast. There is information all over the web explaining how to begin prepping so one has water and food and necessary supplies AND security. Many of us call this “living insurance”.

Government cannot help fast enough when millions are involved and I understand FEMA may have water available Monday. That is a week after it happened. A person may die after three days without water. I won’t depend on FEMA for water or food or anything that keeps me alive.

My hope is many people will become preppers after this Sandy Hurricane experience. Provide your own “living insurance”.

Why whine about an apology. Preppers got the last laugh. Enjoy it.

In my personal experience, I was able to send a great amount of items I’d prepped and saved to friends on the Gulf Coast to use after Katrina hit. The stores were emptied of batteries, gas cans, certain foods, bottled water and many other items even this far North in Mississippi but what I’d stored was what he needed and I sent it to him. It was not wasted.

I am a prepper of sorts. I have enough canned food, water, along with other essentials to last my family about a month of so. I am constantly trying to add to, and improve upon, my supplies. This most recent storm revealed a few short-comings in my preps. I learned from family that is stuck there in NJ/NY that you should always keep all your vehicles full of gas and you should have a good amount of cash (say $1000+). Those are two things I am going to make sure I have from now on. I would like to do a lot more, but my funds are limited and I am currently living in an apartment which prevents me from storing gas. On the bright side, I am well equipped with weapons and ammo ...something a lot of law-abiding people in NY/NJ areas are not.

Several things here.

1) Preppers are seen as weirdos when they’re prepping for something most of the population don’t think is a threat. I’m not saying preppers are wrong, but “regular” people don’t think it’s weird for someone to stock up before a hurricane.

2) There was a mandatory evacuation. In such a case, everyone should have been either leaving or prepping. Anyone doing neither of those is just in denial.

3) The media and liberals malign preppers because they understand “stockpiling” just like they understand the economy. They think that if someone is stockpiling a resource, there will necessarily be less of it for everyone else. This is not true until production of the resource stops. Liberals approach every situation like it’s a zero-sum game. Prepping isn’t. The economy isn’t. Liberals and stupid, lazy people will always want the fruits of other people’s labor.

4) There’s something missing from the prepping community: optimism. Everyone is Harold Camping. I’d love to meet a positive prepper. Maybe more encouragement and less doomsdayism would result in more people prepping.

Flame away.

Non-preppers (and all governments) don't recognize or understand the concept of a Black Swan. [For those who aren't familiar with the Black Swan Concept, years ago it was “common” knowledge that there was no such thing as a Black Swan, and then, one day, a Black Swan showed up.] Preppers are not prepping for something they know is going to happen, they are prepping for the unexpected, the unthinkable, or unknowable. Preppers are prepping for the Black Swan.

Today and tomorrow will be last minute prep days to add to what we already have. More bottled water, extra cat food, extra canned goods, sugar, made my list over the weekend. I am anticipating things will get nasty after the election. Hubby just flew out to Rhode Island on business for 3 days. Hope that goes well. First election night in 34 years we have been apart. Hope to at least Skype in the evening and hope FR site will be working good. Will definitely be checking in on MSNBC’c coverage, a station we never watch but it should be entertaining and strangely satisfying Tuesday night. The Poll Bubble is about to burst. BTW someone posted on another thread that the Daily Caller had a chat room they used as a backup during the debates when FR was slow. Anyone know how to find it?? I’ve looked twice. Thanks!
