Liberal media, White House owes preppers and survivalists a massive apology

In the wake of superstorm Sandy, preppers are the new prophets. Those who failed to prepare are the new homeless.

For as long as we can all remember, preppers and survivalists have been derided by the mainstream media, labeled “kooks” and “wing nuts” for stockpiling food, water, ammunition, medical supplies and emergency gear. Only paranoid conspiracy theorists engage in evil preparedness activities, we were told by the sellout mainstream media, and they’ve convinced many that preppers may even be terrorists.

The very word “stockpiling” has been used in a derogatory manner, as if it’s somehow bad for private citizens to stockpile food, medicine and emergency supplies that might save lives in a crisis. Never mind that the government stockpiles all these things for its own survival; citizens are routinely taught that stockpiling is bad!

Suddenly all that has changed. In the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, preppers are the ones who aren’t starving, freezing or begging the government to come save them with emergency supplies. Those who failed to prepare are now subjected to the chaotic, incompetent actions of the federal government which is, predictably, operating in a never-ending state of logistical failure.

An one example, in response to the ongoing scarcity of gasoline, New York announced that the Defense Department would be opening up free gas stations near areas hardest-hit, but that residents should stay away and let first responders fuel up ahead of them.

“These clowns at FEMA could not rough it for one damn day.”

Clowns is exactly what they are. They are paper pushers that have seminars at expensive resorts but do no actual work. I’m an RN, a HAM, have taken the FEMA Professional Development course, and am a CAP member (inactive because they’re so FUBAR.) FEMA is a government PR op. They’re very happily drawing a paycheck, but have not interest in actually doing anything to help. FEMA is like one of those really tiny band-aids thrown at a hemorrhage.

You think Preppers are happy that people are starving and being killed? You don’t know Preppers. We encourage everyone to store water and food because it is necessary to live and we don’t want anyone to die for lack of water and food.

I would hope everyone learned a lesson this time around and do whatever stocking up they can reasonably afford. The violence and killing after the fact will be a result of the Have-nots trying to get their hands on the stuff of the Haves. It won't take long for the Haves to understand the basic rule of survival: protect your personal property. A person trying to forcibly take your personal property is trying to kill you in order to save himself. Those who can't protect themselves and their property are doomed.

Alas, the collective memory of the majority of Americans is excruciatingly short. Most of those people who intend to do some basic prepping today will put it off and then, in three months, will have totally forgotten about the devastation we know as Sandy.

Remember, cops don't prevent crime, they investigate crimes after the fact. Law enforcement after the fact does nothing to eliminate either the terror or consequences of the crime while it is being committed.

Non-preppers (and all governments) don't recognize or understand the concept of a Black Swan. [For those who aren't familiar with the Black Swan Concept, years ago it was “common” knowledge that there was no such thing as a Black Swan, and then, one day, a Black Swan showed up.] Preppers are not prepping for something they know is going to happen, they are prepping for the unexpected, the unthinkable, or unknowable. Preppers are prepping for the Black Swan.

Not a spark from me, thought I will say that your flame statement shows that you expect the worse from preppers which makes me think there’s something missing from your view of preppers, that is not to judge us as a whole but one at a time. I ask you is a fireman who trains for a three alarm he many never respond to a pessimistic? Of policeman at a gun range who may never be forced to shoot someone? Or a solider training for nuclear war that never occurs?

That said I think that preppers are actually very optimist. What we say and prep for is should bad times come we or the SHTF will have the training and the tools to handle them and survive them.

We encourage others to do the same as we so that they and their families can weather storms as well, yes some storms may never come, but rare is a life that doesn’t have to to weather some type of storm. Bad things occur and many aren’t Hurricanes were you get days of warning before, but by sharing our knowledge, experiences and ideas with others shows that we are not saying we are all going to die, we are saying if you prepare you and your families might live or at least not suffer near as much when and if they do occur.

After all planning to survive SHTF takes lots of optimism and of course faith, but not planing is very pessimistic and to me is like saying why bother it will do no good any way.

If you can't protect it you don't own it.

4) There’s something missing from the prepping community: optimism.

I think you've got that backwards.

Preppers are optimistic and self confident enough to think they can survive a SHTF scenario.

As far as I can see, those who hate preppers (hate is the right word) are the exact opposite. They do not think they can survive, and don't want anyone else to either. Now THAT is what I call a rotten attitude!

A much more mature attitude on the part of the non-prepping majority would be to simply ignore those who prep. If you don't want to prep, fine. If you do, that's fine too.

So why the anger towards those who prep?

Today and tomorrow will be last minute prep days to add to what we already have. More bottled water, extra cat food, extra canned goods, sugar, made my list over the weekend. I am anticipating things will get nasty after the election. Hubby just flew out to Rhode Island on business for 3 days. Hope that goes well. First election night in 34 years we have been apart. Hope to at least Skype in the evening and hope FR site will be working good. Will definitely be checking in on MSNBC’c coverage, a station we never watch but it should be entertaining and strangely satisfying Tuesday night. The Poll Bubble is about to burst. BTW someone posted on another thread that the Daily Caller had a chat room they used as a backup during the debates when FR was slow. Anyone know how to find it?? I’ve looked twice. Thanks!

What’s up with Clinton and 0bummer? He hates him. There must be a deal/dirt involved for him to suck-up to that POS-in-chief.

FEMA is a bad joke. US Military could easily get it done if the corrupt, criminal pols would GTH out of the way.

I agree. It beats the hell out of me, unless Clinton fears Obozzo will throw Hilliary under the bus like he does everyone. Hilliary and the Muslim gal, who is her top aide, are something that surprised me. I am not insinuating any gay stuff. What I do know is the Sec of State is responsible for every ambassador’s health, safety, and welfare. Hilliary had overall responsibility in Libya unless Obozzo and/or Jarrett took over. My gut feeling is Jarrett and Soros run Obama. Obama has silenced Holder for several months.

I know that Jarrett is 0bummer’s controller; I’ve always thought Soros was in that ‘mix’ too, somehow. You’re 100% spot-on, L20.

Some people believe SHTF never happens or never will happen to them. Well like it or not if this Nor’easter hits (which right now seem very likely) the Sandy devastation zone we will see really honest to goodness SHTF. Something that just a few days of hurricane preps that the average person stocks isn’t going to do it. And the ‘gummbermint’ is already underwater in their efforts to help. This is what I prep for and it can happen.
