The police either did not surveil the scene for 24 hrs,(are those school kids entering the house?) or the kids enter and leave the residence through the system of tunnels that have egress 500 feet away from the house.

And another casualty in a botched no-knock SWAT raid. We’re getting at least one of these stories a week nowadays, aren’t we?

I don't think every podunk town needs a SWAT team and if it was up to me, I'd outlaw the use of SWAT. Failing that, there would only be a few regional SWAT teams and they would be tightly controlled. The war on drugs is a loser, not only the idea is a loser but these poor people are the real losers too.

I don't like the idea of no-knock raids and the cops should hold their badges for ID. I do recall an episode of "Picket Fences" where the sherriff (Tom Skerritt) was hosen for jury duty and his case was where a drug dealer shot and killed three cops during a no-knock raid and he argued the case where the perp used self defense since he did not know they were police, it could have been other robbers, etc. At first I thought it was absurd but when I think about other cases like this one and our eroding freedoms, I have to agree with that logic and vote the same way.

Back in the 80s the feds came after Vic Feazel, DA in Waco, Texas on a bunch of trumped up crap. They raided his home and came up with what they said was drug parapernalia. It was a syringe taken from a decorative plaque that was given to him in recognition of his efforts in fighting drug dealers. They left the plaque so Vic showed it to reporters. The dried glue was still on it.

After a lengthy trial he was acquitted. He sued Channel 8 in Dallas for libel. The jury awarded him millions with the stipulation that if it was appealed and lost the interest would be enormous. Rumor has it Channel 8 called Vic the day of the verdict and asked him where to send the check.

By the way, the reason they came after him was he made the Texas Rangers look like fools by proving Henry Lee Lucas didn’t kill all the people the Rangers had said he’d killed and thus all those “closed” cases were re-opened. Another thing that pissed them off was they thought he was building a political machine. The only law enforcement agency that didn’t go after him was the McClennan County Sheriff’s Office. The same agency that wanted nothing to do with the raiding of the Koresh compound.

Fairly serious 2nd degree burn with some blistering . bet it hurts like Hell & the stuff you can”t see ie eye & hearing injuries need to be tested for. All I can say is that some folks need to get a real asshole of a lawyer to sue & make the lives of the sheriff & his staff a living hell.

The claim that the police thought there was a meth lab in there is hearsay. The police weren't specific about what they thought was in there, but it was good enough to get a warrant.

The decision to use a SWAT team was based on a detailed checklist the department uses when serving warrants. Investigators consider dozens of items such as residents' past criminal convictions, other criminal history, mental illness and previous interactions with law enforcement. Each item is assigned a point value and if the total exceeds a certain threshold, SWAT is requested. Then a commander approves or rejects the request. In Tuesday's raid, the points exceeded the threshold and investigators called in SWAT. "Every bit of information and intelligence that we have comes together and we determine what kind of risk is there," St. John said. "The warrant was based on some hard evidence and everything we knew at the time."
