Typically a restore point is created when updates are applied.
Try rolling back to the previous point.
Go to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/search.aspx?q=kb2687483 and perform the download manually.
Try going to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
Delete all contents of that folder & run windows
Update again.
If that doesn’t work try Linux Mint :)
Yes for the last 20 years......Go MAC life is to short
Dunno....after 30 years of IBM PC category computers, I just switched to a Macbook Pro with Retina display and all the solid state memory it can hold and all the bells and whistles (expensive).. for the Word crap, I got the $200 Office pak....
It automatically inserted itself in my environment with no problems....router, printer (airprint), remote desktop, etc....I’m impressed....
Couple days ago I got an automatic MSFT download on my almost new computer.
Next time I used my computer, total screen freeze after I went to IE-9.
Had to shut down manually by holding the on/off button down.
Then, when I got back in, all my password required sites and programs - like Free Republic - had erased my screen name and password.
Had to manually re-enter all access info on each site.
Computer is working fine now.
I vaguely recall that an IE-9 security alert was issued a few weeks ago, and that MSFT was working on a patch.
My MAC starts every time and works no questions asked.
I always thought people who used APPLE computers were pretentious dolts till I switched.
Probably not directly helpful, but ...
I’d look into upgrading to a new version of Office - 2003 is, or will be out of support, so things like application security for elements exposed to the web would be suspect through time, and vulnerable to exploits.
OR - I’d look at Libre Office (formerly Open Office). It is a very good MS Office replacement, offering word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentations, etc. It is open source and community supported - in other words, FREE. I’ve used it, and it’s good. And it can be used to both read and write in MS Office compatible formats. If you’re looking only for single-user functionality (not a business office environment), I think you’d find it very good.
I suppose you could try removing and reinstalling service pack 3 for office 2003. Then reapplying updates.
When you try to install updates...you may receive a "0x80246007" error code (from the MS website).
I had one fail a few days ago when it came through as a stand-alone update. It installed a few days later when it was installed with a group of other updates. Maybe one of the other updates cleared the problem. You may just need to wait a few days.
