SOMERSET — Two F-22 fighters were scrambled over Somerset County this morning to intercept two small planes whose pilots breached a temporary no-fly zone set up Monday over New Jersey and New York and lasting until this afternoon, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command and the Federal Aviation Administration. The fighters intercepted the planes at about 11 a.m. after they entered the temporary no-fly zone and were out of out radio contact, the NORAD spokesman said.......

Rare sight in central NJ, awesome though! One came low (2000'?) over our house a couple times...heard it over the sound of the leaf blower while cleaning the yard.

Why was there a no-fly zone? Was Obama in town?

Protecting the U.N.? Would the fighters have been given permission to fire over the cities knowing the planes might come down on CIVILIAN homes, while our military would not be able to do the same in the war?

Pilots might not be the only people denied work while he’s around. It almost seems like there’s a general work stoppage for a whole bunch of people, not just pilots, anywhere within about 3000 miles of the guy. Sort of like a no-work zone, not just a no-fly zone. “Unemployment,” I think it’s called.

Ummm. those are our military.

If there is a threat, they will fire. Sorry about the house. There's an officer to talk to for claims.

I'm ok with our military protecting our airspace.

“I’m ok with our military protecting our airspace.”

The airspace itself cannot be harmed. Period.

However, the elites on the ground have determined that light aircraft are a threat. So, huge chunks of normally navigable airspace get suddenly declared off limits to citizen pilots under threat of interception, and even death.

Every time a TFR (temporary flight restriction) is declared, scores of small airports are essentially put out of business for the duration.

How would you like it if you couldn’t back out of your driveway because Obama happened to be within 30 miles?

And who, exactly, decided that a typical light airplane, with the kinetic energy of a Volkswagen, is a threat? Most pilots I know are far from suicidal maniacs. They have to be pretty normal to get a pilots license.

Sheesh.

Private aviation is another freedom the statists want to eliminate.Mucj easier to control the people if they must use Aeroflot.

Why are we using our most advanced Jet Fighters to chase Cessna 150’s or whatever small planes that were flying around? Is Cessna building a MIG now?

We don't have any National Guard F-16’s anymore? Heck, we only have what, 80 F-22’s?

Yeah model flying seems to be on the list too. Every time a president goes to NYC, I get an e-mail restricting model flying within 30 miles to cover “VIP” movement. I just think Obama is there a lot more than Bush or Clinton ever were.

Yeah, overkill for students in 152’s. Can an F22 slow to 65 Kts? Maybe we were showing off for the U.N. It was still cool to see one in flight though.

I have no problem with that either. Always loved watching the A-10s fly over from Willow Grove every morning. However, the comment was meant to be a jab at the ROE that our guys are having to obey while fighting a war. :)

There was a big hoo-haa over roads being closed because the great zero was coming in Philly, I think. When Bush visited Springfield, MO I stood at the edge of the road and watched him drive by. No roads closed there. Therefore, there must be thousands of death threats against that other man.

Better to close the roads and keep the peasants away.

Otherwise they might see that the emperor, truly has no clothes.
