When the time comes, I’m all about moonshining. Yes sir.
As a matter of fact I read that a 14 yr old Jack Daniel made some serious money during the Civil War selling to both sides.

Another question, Kartographer: Where is the best, most economical source of a Berkey gravity fed water filter?

What a fool I am. I just now came in from watering some seeds I planted in the backyard. Silly, silly me and the many gardener FRiends.

Most of those suggested items rely upon a good supply of water.

For those of us with wells, a hand pump is suggested.

Around our house there will be plenty of regular rats I imagine for a bit longer than the squirrels. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to look up some Asian recipes for them. Meat’s meat.

“Brown rats and roof rats were eaten openly on a large scale in Paris when the city was under siege during the Franco-Prussian War. Observers likened their taste to both partridges and pork. And, according to the Larousse Gastronomique, rats are still eaten in some parts of France.”

>>isn’t Whiskey a food group?

It is also an excellent barter item. Someone here has mentioned getting a case/pallet of whiskey or vodka pints for that purpose. Stores well, maintains value.

You can come pretty close to keeping a good sized family alive for a year with a ton of potatoes and a ton of wheat. And on decent ground you can raise that on an acre, easy. Both grow true from seed, too, and they keep well without refrigeration. Throw in a good mix of other good garden seeds and you’re good to go.

Better make sure you have a decent hand crank mill for the wheat though. Pretty hard to make bread unless you can produce flour.
