ST. LOUIS, Mich. -
Friends and neighbors in a mid-Michigan community are rallying behind owners of a golden retriever that was fatally shot by a police officer.
The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reports supporters gathered Tuesday at the home where the dog named Scout lived in St. Louis, about 50 miles north of Lansing.
Mike Goetzinger says the officer had "no reason" to kill the dog owned by his brother Brian Goetzinger and his family. They're planning a protest and vigil Wednesday.

Yes: They could lick you to death.
This is why some of us despise the b@stards with badges.
I suspect that the tests include a section on aggressiveness, and this is what the police departments want: aggressive SOBs.
America's finest showing up to protect and serve -- and kill your little puppies.
The cop psyche is geared to intimidate. That is their force field when they are on the streets. Dogs are loyal to their human pack and territorial, and those instincts prevent them from being intimidated by cops. Out comes the gun, the ultimate intimidater. Besides that, cops are taught that there are too many dogs on the streets, and that they are dangerous. When a cop sees a dog, the hunter blood lust surges through them. They become big game hunters. Maybe if they were all forced to legally hunt deer, elk, bear, whatever, they would get the desire to hunt dogs and shoot live things out of their system.
No, first they bash you unconscious with their wagging tail, then they lick you to death.
It's awful.
I had a coworker who hated me. She used to bring her enormous Golden to work, and that boy loved me to pieces.
Snicker...
That's how Ruby Ridge started.
That isn’t the reason Ruby Ridge started.
They shot the family dog. The Weaver boy shot the thug and they killed him.
That isn’t why Ruby Ridge happened. The fedgov was harassing this family to the point they were trying to get them out of their house. Thry were trumping up charges against them to get them out. People were killed as well as the dog and it was a standoff situation for days.
This was one stupid cop who shot a dog in a person’s yard while out on an unrelated call, that hardly posed a credible threat.
WHile dogs were shot in both cases they are hardly comparable incidents.
