The NCAA has found that no rules were broken in the academic scandal at the University of North Carolina that reportedly involved football players taking no-show classes in the school’s African and Afro-American Studies department, according to a statement from the university.

I bet since these no-show classes were in "African Studies" the NCAA did not have the guts to hammer UNC.

Of course they did inflict sanctions against CalTech, because during their infamously rigorous quarter year schedule, they would permit any student to drop without penalty during the first two weeks. That might, but never did, permit a student athlete to play a game as a full time student, then drop to become a part time student. UNC African American studies gets a pass, but CalTech got sanctions for imaginary flaws.

There is virtually no link between college athletics and college academics (the vast majority of the time.)

Now, my college best friend was a A student EE major and a linebacker....but then again we were at a school that actually had standards.

Aside note - guess who always lost the dorm wrestling matches? I’ve still got a sore neck.

a local college football team lost scholarships because a few players left college early, or dropped out for academics or behavior problems.. or criminal activity.....somehow leaving early went against their total student achievement....

Which NCAA rules did Penn State break?

This is horse-droppings what the NCAA has done

They are so afraid of going after UNC because of their basketball program, it is one of the most successful

The NCAA tends to shy away from schools that have won a lot of championships when it comes to punishment. For years UCLA cheated when John Wooden was there, but were so afraid to strip the school of all those national championships. UCLA was paying players big money to go there

And, anyone who still thinks the NCAA punishment of Penn State is legit...think again. When the Paterno family destroys that Freeh Report in a court room, the NCAA will look even more foolish...and will put added misery on Sandusky’s victims
