(CNSNews.com) - A survey of 3,130 American adults conducted by the Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation between July 25 and August 5 discovered that large majorities of Americans favor a smaller federal government and believe the government controls too much of our daily lives.

The survey discovered these results even though only 25 percent of the people it polled were Republicans, while another 34 percent were Democrats and another 34 percent were Independents.

The poll asked: "Would you say you favor a smaller federal government with fewer services, or larger federal government with many services?"

Among all those polled, 55 percent said they wanted a smaller federal government and 40 percent said they wanted a larger federal government.

Among just the registered voters in the poll, 58 percent said they wanted a smaller federal government and 37 percent said they wanted a larger federal government.

The poll also asked: "Do you personally agree or disagree with the following statement. Government controls too much of our daily lives."

Among all those polled, 60 percents said they agreed and 39 percent said they disagreed. Among just the registered voters in the survey, the results were almost identical, with 60 percent saying they agreed and 38 percent saying they disagreed.

In a news story about this survey, the Washington Post said the results show a deep partisan divide in America. "Partisan polarization presents a potentially insurmountable barrier to governing for whomever wins the White House in November," the Post said.

The survey interviewed 1,027 Democrats, 1,054 Independents, and 846 Republicans. The margin of error was +/- 3.5.

No problem.
Obama will just SAY he intends to reduce the size of government and that Romney will grow it.
Voila.
The MSM will pant and salivate and preach it as truth.

60-40 is a great partisan divide? I wonder if they used the same language to describe Obamacare.

Since Democrats are dishonest, corrupt or stupid this poll means nothing. They vote entirely differently from what they CLAIM they want.

Even when they try to drum up support for this behemoth among the fools who voted for it, it Still gets rejected.

Partisan? Would that be the Partisan Divide between the Govt and the people its feeding off of?

There you go.

They want it all paid for by someone else, but with no strings attached.

Romney needs to resurrect the Reagan line about “getting Government off your backs”. Would be gold in this environment.

“Partisan polarization presents a potentially insurmountable barrier to governing for whomever wins the White House in November,” the Post said.

WaPo Lied; they were trying to lift up the idea of the GOP vs Dim “partisan divide”.

And yet, by recognizing (1) the illegitimate demographic distribution by political affilliation of those in the poll - unnaturally heavyweighted toward the Dims, and (2) the poll results, the major “partisan divide” is between those who want a smaller Federal government and those that don’t, and favors those that do and that “partisan divide” is larger than any GOP vs Dim divide.

Some of us have been “working the hustings” in the virtual sphere, and more people keep recognizing the errors of the Liberal philosophy.
