Lately, Chick-fil-A has some high-profile fans. But an analysis from YouGov suggests that becoming a conservative cause is not good for the companys brand. The YouGov BrandIndex subtracts negative feedback from positive among its 1.7 million American fast-food eaters. Since July 19, when Chick-fil-A founder Dan Cathy suggested that changing the traditional definition of what constitutes a family is inviting Gods judgment on our nation, perception of the brand has dropped to 4 points below the national average from its spot at 19 points above the average before he made the comment.
(The only area of the country where perception of Chick-fil-A has not gone downhill: the Midwest.)
That drop comes as Republicans have rallied around the company as a conservative cause worth defending. Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee declared Aug. 1 Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day. Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum has live-tweeted his peach shakes. Speaking in Texas this past weekend, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin promised to stop by the chain on her way home (and then posted proof). Conservative activists touted long lines at various franchises.
Chick-fil-A has always been an openly Christian company, and the groups past donations to anti-gay organizations were no secret. Some college campuses had already shunned the group.
But the national backlash against Cathys comments is far more widespread. The company felt compelled to release a Facebook statement affirming that Chick-fil-A policy is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. Various franchise owners have been using the same statement.
When an aspiring politician says something controversial, the attention of prominent Republicans can be a career boon. For a fast food company, things are different. Have Democrats been fueling the fire with calls to boycott Chick-fil-A? Sure.

Since I am going to Chick-a-fill EVERY DAY while they are in the news, I am more than happy to make up for the 2 percent of their (former) customers that believe that they understand the purpose of marriage more than past 5,000 years of recorded history.
Just went there today, and will tomorrow, and Wednesday. Hopefully later in the week things will quiet down a bit, so I can eat something else.

That chart is bogus, something created by a 17-year-old with a pirated copy of Photoshop. The data are not real.
I find it odd that a distinct minority of the populous believes a boycott can win against delicious chicken, soup, waffle-fries, beverages and desserts.
Petitions may draw attention, but require a suit of some sort to proceed to the next level. And freedom of religion is going to be a hard nut to crack, let alone win.
As long as Chick-Fil-A has customers, I’ve no doubt they’ll be standing long after this popcorn fart in a blizzard abates and disappears.

By "us" I mean all those on earth then living, and now (how inclusive is that??!) but not signifying sexolating disorderly.

I just don’t get the logic of the author here. She seems to be saying that GOP support has made the brand rating drop. I don’t see how getting MORE support from a large segment of the population, after liberals dump all over you, could create a problem. Why is she reaching this conclusion? I think the dip was temporary, and GOP support will make it rise again.

Chickfila is by far the best fast food restaurant I have ever been to. Clean and very professional people, as if you feel like the people there have morals and respect for their customers. When on road trip, Chickfile is definitely the preferred stop. And this is coming from someone who hates fast food and thinks those daily fast food eaters are probably lazy people who cannot even plan their own meal, not to mention they are often bordering on obsese. **wheew, got that out of my chest**
Chickfila as a business and organization is superb... even in a low cost/low quality market like fast food.

This “Brand Index” impresses me as pretty much hooey.

When I go to parties, I usually pick up a platter or two of CFA nuggets. They are always very popular.
Even if it did affect some buying decisions, likely the whole thing will die down and people who like their food will drift back. In the mean time, many new customers who just started going there because of all of this, will become permanent new customers. In the end they will have gained new loyal customers, and most of the ones that may have left for awhile will be back.
Also, if the Midwest is a good territory for them, there are many, many areas that do not have them. In Wisconsin, for instance, there is only one in the entire state. I hope they open one in my area.
In any event they know that there are more important things in life than how much money you make. If they remain faithful in the midst of adversity, The LORD will bless them.
Excellent point. The Cursillo movement uses the rainbow and the song “De Colores” as a representation of their association, so that’s one fairly substantial alternative usage already in place.
Maybe we could associate the rainbow with authentic marriage by including the word “Covenant” prominently.
