Turnout in top 10 counties suggests voter interest in GOP runoff pretty strong (TX Senate Runoff)

Two days of early voting for Tuesday’s GOP runoff election in urban counties of Texas has yielded more than twice as many votes as it did last spring.

(snip)

It’s a small sample size, but the numbers may surprise some folks. I wouldn’t dare to venture a guess as to who it helps in the U.S. Senate battle between Ted Cruz and David Dewhurst, though the conventional wisdom is that higher turnout helps Dewhurst because it “dilutes the tea” with voters who tilt more to the Texas conservative business establishment. But Cruz has made this a race and there’s nothing to say the healthy early vote numbers don’t reflect the zeal of his volunteer-staffed phone banks and energized supporters.

That’s why, if you don’t mind, we’ll just go ahead and have the election. Put the crystal balls away, thank you.

Either Cruz or Dewhurst would be better than Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

So it’s pretty much a won race however it goes.

I will vote again for Cruz, but he doesn’t seem to be answering Dewhurst’s ngative ads against him. I think many will vote for Dewhurst because of name ID. Many are too uninformed to make a choice.

Voted today, there was a line this time as opposed to no line in the primary early-voting. Still looks like 5-6% of total voters will be making the final decision, though. So go vote. Your vote means so much more in the runoff.

Voted today for Cruz, there was only a short line.

From your “gut instincts” (what you observed) what is the mood of those who are voting early? Cruz or Dewhurst?

Voted for Cruz today. Encouraging friends and family to do so as well. Dewhurst has turned off many with his negative ads.
