I agree with the running off people. We have a few tin foil hat types who post really long posts apparently because nobody in the real world listens.

It would be nice to have posts over half a screen to be truncated and IF desired put in a “more” button to see the whole post. This way it does not destroy the screen real estate.

Well, that depends on who is defining “change,” and while sometimes certain types of laws can change due to changing conditions, see http://peacebyjesuscom.blogspot.com/2011/09/contradictions-in-roman-catholicism.html

"Anyone ever heard of a ‘text only’ browser? Seems to me that would solve the problem by only displaying text, and not images."

Here is a tip for Mozilla Firefox users. You can turn off pictures and only text will be displayed. Other browzers have this option too but here are the steps for Firefox.

Go to TOOLS
then click OPTIONS
then click the CONTENT TAB
then de-click the LOAD IMAGES AUTOMATICALLY.

I will also de-click ENABLE JAVASCRIPT if there is a page here or else where loaded with photos and java-type moving ads.

This will allow your browser to only display text and pages load soooooo much faster.

Just one other thing if you de-click ENABLE JAVASCRIPT you won’t be able to access e-mail accounts or see some comment sections powered by javascript on other websites.

Remember to re-enable photos and javascript later.

Why not just turn off images in your browser settings?

Can’t believe how many mentally-challenged FReeper wanna-bees can’t figure out the “headers” option.

Salvation usually posts the Novus Ordo Daily Mass readings late at night (off peak load times) and with few graphics.

Likewise, Robert Drobot usually posts the weekly Traditional Mass on Sundays which are normally not peak load times.

Posters who do not wish to see Religion Forums posts, should NOT use the "everything" option on the Free Republic browse option list. Instead, they should browse by "News/Activism." When they log back in, the browse will reset to "everything" - so they must be sure to set it back to "News/Activism."

I know of no way to filter out just the Religion Forum, e.g. retain Chat and Bloggers.

Finally, click here for more information on Religion Forum guidelines.

I AM a Catholic. I have wished a bazillion times for a way to filter out the Catholic posts from the comments. There are other offenders as well, but my fellow Catholics are the worst offenders of the giant posts that cramp my scroll finger and make my eyes cross.

I am a Christian. I greatly enjoy the forums, including the religion forum. However, I am also a busy person, and I am a multi-tasker by nature. So, when I do have time to browse, I like to review the latest articles, then if I have anything to add, I like to review the latest posts, so I can simultaneously see what’s going on in those threads.

When I am streaming through the latest posts, I don’t want to put it on title only, I want to see the primary gist of the response. However, with the obnoxious abusive spam HTML/image postings that are 20-pages long, often in latin, you are forced to scroll through them.

The poster knows what he(they) are doing. On the one hand, I appreciate the efforts of religious people to share articles of faith. On the other hand, I have absolutely zero interest in the 20-page html postings relating to catholic myths and traditions, and I do not want to eliminate the other 99.9% I do care about, just to get around the spam.

So, I think that we should be able to either block the offending poster(s) altogether, or that their 20-page html in-your-face posts need to be limited. Like, when they post 40 posts in a 2 hour period, knowing that MANY of us here have no interest at all in what they are posting.

There should be an option/setting on your phone browser to not display pictures automatically. I WANT to see the pictures from the other 99.9% of the threads, as NONE of them post 20-page long html/pictures. Honestly, why should the thousands of us who agree with me have to shut off 99.9% of the picture content because .01% of the posters choose to use these forums as a religious outreach with posts that are INTENTIONALLY html/image based so as to end-run the excerpting function of the forum software?

What? You like that type of spam? What prompted that response from you?

I myself am interested in the religion threads, but i find the often promoting of Catholicism (though most of her members are liberal), far more than her “competition,” to be provoking. And which often results in the promoters complaining when challenged.

FWIW, I try to just ignore them. If I want to know what they think I can go to their catechism.

True, but the reason for my interest is in dealing with the promotion of it.

I think what you and other Christians do is admirable and I support your efforts 100%. I'm not so inclined now because my interest is in studying Dispensationalism, eschatology, and current Christian persecution. I'm sure at some point I'll return to the mission field of trying to present The Gospel to RC’s.

Wow some people get fussy! That post did serve some purpose, however: it reminded me that the answer it was waiting for is “sanctus fimus”
