I check out your on-line paper from time to time because I once lived in HI. I must tell you I was fairly well stunned to find NO mention of Memorial day on your online site on 28 May 12 - or if it was there it was hidden pretty well. Certainly wasn't on the front page. Considering the number of fallen who still rest at the Arizona Memorial, I find it more than a little sad there wasn't something about Memorial Day on your front page. Enjoy your freedom!
BUT yesterday the Church of God in Kingwood, PA. (a dot on the map in Southwestern Pennsylvania) had a dedication service for a memorial erected in honor of all Veterans in the local area, it was hot, large crowd about 250 and a lovely service, part out doors and part indoors and NOT once was the current presidents name mentioned nor acknowledged...yea...all branches of the military were there and the country folks were all proud..
The day was special.
There was a parade in Somerset PA. and I bet this area votes NO OBAMA...
Newspapers are obsolete. They made themselves obsolete.
Dunno.
I stopped my subscription when they started putting homosexual advertising sections in it.
Mine did.
However, it also ran an editorial cartoon saying that Tea Party people are retards.
Amazing. The Boston Tea Party was held up to me as an example of brave men defying despotism. Now believing in the same principles get me called a gay (”tea bagging”) retard.
My father (1924-2003) was a 3 war Marine. I have his K Bar from Guadalcanal. I am thankful he is not here to see this.
I don’t know.My local paper is the Boston Globe...which I haven’t read since 1988.However,I’d be willing to wager that if they did it was only to point out the millions of war crimes our Armed Forces, and their individual members, have committed over our history.
Yes, someone had to explain the 700 motorcycles going though town.
I also checked on the Los Angeles area papers. All had an above the fold front page article except for a below the fold article from the Spanish language paper.
I don’t get my local paper anymore because over time it was simply printing columns from AP peppered with editorials from the dumbest liberals it could conjure. AP does not care much about American-American holidays.
Old timers in the area will recall when the DMN was once a reliably Conservative newspaper. When this was a competitive market, the old Dallas Times-Herald was a leftist organ publishing columns by Molly Ivins, Laura Miller and others of that evil persuasion. When Belo absorbed the DTH, they then started a journey to the left of the political spectrum. The one benefit of having a leftist paper in town is that the other one was able to provide a Conservative voice.
That said, in regions like the northeast and the left coast, the Dallas Morning News would likely be perceived as an extreme right newspaper. By the by, I do miss the feisty sports columnists of the old Herald though.
There has been significant coverage of local and area Memorial Day commemorations in the Finger Lakes Times (NY). Lots of color photos, too. There will be more coverage tomorrow of today’s events, and more still on Wednesday and Thursday, as Waterloo honors are fallen hero on May 30, Memorial Day’s traditional date.
We noticed, also, that the top story five nights straight on Syracuse TV news is the Watch Fire at the NYS Fair Grounds. It honors our soldiers and vets, and also respectfully destroys with honor old, worn out flags.
Gee, I never thought Hawaii would forget...
did you notice google’s page?
every other day they have some elaborate bullsh*t relating to some obscure piece of trivia... all of which is clickable and takes you to information on the topic
memorial day, a day we set aside to remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for family, G-d, and country... rates a simplistic, tiny flag obscured by a yellow ribbon.
additionally, it is not clickable.
bing, by comparison, has 3 flag prominently displayed and a click takes the user to a page on memorial day and it’s history.
adjust your user habits accordingly.
I live in Rockland County, NY, and the Journal News is totally a liberal rag. We get it because my wife wants the coups, so we get it delivered Thursday through Sunday.
The articles are bent so far left it’s crazy.
That being said, I must give them total props how they handle Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and West Point Graduation Day.
We no longer subscribe to our local newspaper, The Arizona Republic.
Lots of flags in our neighborhood though.
