Free Republic still blocked in Massachusetts Public Schools
Massachusetts Public Schools | 5/25/12

Posted on 05/25/2012 6:23:55 AM PDT by pabianice

A friend who is a long-suffering teacher at a Massachusetts public school called to let me know that the state's schools remain proudly moronic and bigoted. She notes that when one tries to open Free Republic on any school computer, they get a message warning them that the site is blocked for being unsuitable for viewing. However, Daily Kos, Democratic Underground, Huffington Post, Obama for Re-election, and other "balanced" sites can be opened at the click of a few keys.

My friend mentors a club at her school. She says the kids are bright and inquisitive but filled with total crap about conservative thought and achievement. Fortunately, they are open to this information once someone tells them about it.

They know who she is and her job could be in jeopardy, especially if she says anything about FR to the students.

They treat this site is something like ‘Alice does Dallas’.

They are afraid to lose their captive audience before it is indoctrinated beyond the point of no return.

Just this week, I didscovered that FR is blocked at the Applebees on Whitney Way in Madison. The franchisees use something called “The Wisconsin Hospitality Group” to decide what gets blocked. Keyword abortion was the trip wire. To be fair, NARAL and Planned Parenthood (including local affiliates) were also blocked.

I did complain. I doubt anything will change. I won’t be going to that Applebees again. I’ll get my cheeseburgers at Culvers.

Obligatory anti-government school rant that must accompany all “public” school articles.

The “public school”, including the “charter school”, is BY FAR, the largest, most expensive, most subversive, and most destructive entitlement program in the country.

The “public school”, including the “charter school”, is better understood as the “government school collective”.

It is silly to imagine that you can fix the public schools, because the very concept itself is communist.

Any child that comes out of the government school collective with their moral compass and common sense intact does so in spite of the government school indoctrination, not because of it.

If you want to win the culture war, have lots of children (see my tagline) and homeschool them or form your own school cooperative with your church or synagogue and like-minded friends and relatives.

Nobody loves your children more than you do.

Nobody can teach your children like you can.

Your children would love nothing better than to be taught by you, if you start doing so before they are corrupted by the government school collective.

It is hypocritical for you to submit your children to an authority with whom you fundamentally disagree. And your children will know it.

If you have children, make whatever sacrifices you must to get them out of the public schools.

DO NOT FEED THE BEAST!

Especially not with your own children.

And DO NOT TAKE GOVERNMENT “EDUCATION” MONEY!

He that pays the piper calls the tune, and that’s especially true for any government “education” program.

Sorry, but with comments like...

"The only good queer is a dead queer"

"All black kids are suspiscious"

"I am now a full-blown racist"

...all by different long-time, 'respected' freepers, it is not hard to figure out why any school would take this position.

They treat this site is something like ‘Alice does Dallas’.

Are you sure about that? I wouldn't be surprised if they can view Alice Does Dallas.

Although I think the name of the movie is actually Debbie Does Dallas.

Unless Alice Does Dallas is the sequel.

I think a better question is why they let kids spend their schooltime looking at Kos, Huffington or Democrat Underground. I’d rather that they spend their time with math and science. If they have extra time for some reason, I’d rather that they use it to learn something about religion and morality instead of partisan politics.

BS. You ever seen the stuff posted over at DU or Huffington Post? Far worse - only the hatred is directed toward the "correct" people. If the school were taking this position based on the nature of postings, they would block ALL of these sites, not just FR.

May I first state I am not a computer person, but this was my experience when I was a lurker on FR back in ’97 or soon after the Lewinsky scandal was starting up...’96? (I found FR through the Drudge Report.)

Anyway, I was working for DOD at the time. (What an awful, crapy, moronic, unorganized, organization for which to work.)

One day my direct entrance to FR was blocked stating that FR was not authorized. Since DOD is not the brightest, I went around it and went through Google.

Bingo. It worked. I don’t know if it would work today. Your friend could at least try it.

This is not a state wide thing. It could differ from town to town and most likely does. I’ll have my son try it next week.

Government schools are big government and are socialism.

Anyone who supports the existence of government schools is a socialist.

Is it any wonder government schools do all of these tyrannical things and so many of their graduates can't even read after 12 years of indoctrination. socialism doesn't work.

What you just said in your post #10 could be my small attempt to suggested something similar in my post #16.

Your advice is sound, but I don’t know if my case/advice is sound since many years have passed. But they can’t be that bright today either.
