Federal officials say the National Christmas Tree planted near the White House a year ago has died and is being removed.

The National Park Service says the Colorado blue spruce died of "transplant shock." It came from a tree farm in New Jersey last year and was planted on the Ellipse just south of the White House in March 2011.

Wasn’t the Alabama football team at the White House a couple of weeks ago?

This White House? That is really not something to brag about.

I hope you are referring to the National Christmas Tree, and not my own.
Please do not offer it’s organs to the great god Woodstove until, well you know....LOL!
We burn salt cedar...and that is some fine, hard firewood!

I seen much larger trees survive, and much smaller ones die, as a result of improper technique and especially, aftercare, or the lack of it.

Without close-up, careful inspection, it’s impossible to tell or even guess, IMO. But breaking-off so low to the ground usually indicates carpenter ants or a hollowed-out, weak main trunk. Again, a close-up inspection would give me a better perspective; without it, it’s not even a close guess.

No, honey locust is some of the hardest, highest BTU stuff around. Almost too hot, it’s beat mixed with other hardwoods. “Salt Cedar”?? Y’all ain’t from around here.. ;)
