I am trying to edit a WORD 2010 document that is formatted with columns

I want to create a page that has no columns within that document

I cant change that column format from 3 to one on a single page that I can see, it changes all pages within the document

how can I edit that document to have a different format on single pages while the rest remain as they were originally created?

I think I did it

I chose columns, MORE COLUMNS, then changed it to from this forward

or this section next time

Go to the View tab and put the document in ‘Draft’ mode. This will show your page breaks and your section breaks. You can insert a section with a different number of columns by adding two continuous section breaks and formatting only what’s between them. This can be done with page breaks as well if you want a separate page.

You got it. That’s the recommended way.

Highlight the page that you want to change only.

Word formatting is quite unpredictable to put it nicely.

At work we have dozens of people (yes gov’t job) writing documents that should all have the same formatting. The secretary in charge of making the formatting match before the documents are issued is an expert at fixing problems by now. Her job is made more difficult by the fact that the originators know their bad formatting will get fixed and the documents are on their third revision by different authors.

She occasionally retypes some of the documents that even she can’t repair.
