KEY WEST, Fla., -- Two employees of a South Florida company that collects used cooking fat from restaurants have been charged with stealing fat from other companies' clients.
Pedro Gonzalez and Eduardo Vega told police they were trying to make up for the loss of grease that vanished from their scheduled stops before they could make the pickup, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported. Both men work for Avila Environmental, a company based in Miami.
Police reports indicate Monroe County sheriff's deputies were on alert because another collection company complained about cooking fat going missing in the Florida Keys. Deputies said they observed men in a tractor-trailer picking up fat at the Fish House, D Hookers and a McDonald's.
After their truck was pulled over, Gonzalez produced a list of their scheduled stops, which did not include the three restaurants.
Probably a couple of greasers.
Simpsons did it.
LOL reminds me of the episode where Homer and Bart took Willie’s grease
Thats good
Here’s unintended consequence of gummint green meddling...
5-10 years ago you had to PAY someone to haul away your used fryer oil, etc (yellow grease). Now thanks to renewable energy standards for biodiesel the price has gone up and up to the point where now it’s worth stealing...
Groundskeeper Willie: “Acchk, my retirement grease!!!”
After apprehending the pair, the arresting officer chimed- “You’re the ones that I want, the ones that I want...”
Making their own diesel, smart folks, they are, trouble is when their vehicles go buy it smells like fried chicken.
Back in the days of fighting sail the crews rations of
pork or beef were boiled in large cauldrons in the galley
The grease that rose to the top was skimmed off and saved
Some was used to grease the pulleys on the sheve blocks
and capstans for raising the anchor
Rest the cook could sell when in port to soap or candle
makers
Made a nice sum for the ships cook....
I can see a new TV reality show in the making: “Grease Wars!”.
Just thankful these criminals didn’t slip
through the fingers of law enforcement.
This.
I'm reading this story and I'm surprised that a; it is a crime to steal used grease and b; that this actually made the news.
When you make your own diesel from cooking grease and put it in a car with a diesel engine, it smells like... diesel fuel. It’s no different than the diesel you buy at the pump.
You’re thinking of diesel engines that have been converted to run on grease. They also call it WVO (waste vegetable oil.) That’s the kind of fuel that smells like french fries.

Simpson & Son Grease Co. is Homer’s now defunct Grease company. When he started as a grease salesman he thought he would make a lot of money. However, his methods, such as making pounds of bacon for a small amount of grease, resulted in losing profits. After his grease was stolen by a larger and more successful company, he and Bart decided to go for one big score and drain all of grease from the kitchen at Springfield Elementary School. Their attempts were thwarted by Groundskeeper Willie. [1]
Yeah, I knew a guy who had a Ford diesel truck that he ran on fryer oil collected from nearby restaurants. Apparently there’s some sort of chemical process you’re supposed to put the grease through, but he just strained it and poured it into his gas tank. Truck ran great on it, but the exhaust did smell like french fries.
