Former military brass ‘shocked,’ ‘angered’ over USS Gabrielle Giffords
The Daily Caller ^ | 02/14/2012 | Caroline May

Retired Rear Admiral George Worthington, former commander of the Naval Special Warfare Command, told The Daily Caller that there are many people more worthy of a ship bearing their name.

“Here is the issue. There are a lot of dead Marines out there whose names could go on anything that appears to be an amphibious ship,” he said, explaining that a past recipient of the Medal of Honor, Dakota Meyer, might be a good candidate.

Worthington added his email “inbox” has been filled with messages from military friends who are “shocked and angered” by the decision.

“We think fallen Marines and perhaps supporting sailors should go on fantails before random victims,” he said.

"Her Husband is a Naval Officer!! He should know better than anybody since no one else suggesting this travesty does!"

He should, but then he also blamed Palin for his wife's shooting, so he's got $hit for brains too!

The naming of Naval vessels is now on par with the naming of highways and bridges.

Unfortunately true.

" If they name a ship after Obama is should definitely be a destroyer. "

If they named a ship after Obama, the first time it made contact with the enemy the ship would break in half trying to "bow".

I'd say "garbage scow"... but a ship bearing Clinton's name shouldn't be hauling garbage....

We'll probably get a hospital ship named the USS Doctor George Tiller.

“We think fallen Marines and perhaps supporting sailors should go on fantails before random victims,”

Excellent summary statement. The Obama administration is victim focused. Many years down the road the grand kids will be asking gramps whos name was on the ship they served on and what was their claim to fame? What can gramps say other than, "Oh she was just some random shooting victim that happened to be in Congress."

What are they going to say, if that ship with her name would get in the site of the enemies guns.

I wonder what the ship’s motto will be -

******************

DUCK!

Which suggests a ship's mascot/logo:

I said this a few days ago on a thread about this issue, I think it bears repeating. If everyone knew what a piece of crap the Independence is, they may pity the congresswoman. This class of ships is waaaay over budget and thus far, severely under-performing.

John F. Mackie
USS Galena
Sgt. John Quick
Gen’l Vandegrift
Montford Point
Col M A Edson

Forget about Gabby or whatever her name is simmply because she forgot to duck she is entitled to have a ship name after her. This is the real woman who deserve to have a ship name after her:

Army Pfc. Lori Ann Piestewa
Died March 23, 2003 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom

The first Native American female to died if you all recall.
USS PIESTEWA =)

Pfc. Lori Piestewa was the daughter of a Vietnam veteran and the granddaughter of a World War I veteran. She was a source of pride for Tuba City, Ariz., a town of 8,200 people on the Navajo Reservation but close to Hopi land.

That ship’s mission is to act French by raising the white flag at the beginning of any conflict!

Actually, she was ON THE JOB when she was shot. The vast majority of her kind weren't working that day.

I think that's commendable and something to be emulated. Get them out of their offices into the open where they can be seen.

We have named ships for less, and we name ships after living people.

This is a no win situation. If you are against naming the ship after Giffords, which isn't even her married name BTW, you must be a Hater.

Since most people don't pay attention, this too will be just another accommodation to the Left. To a Liberal, tradition is something to be scorned, not respected.
