From Medical News Today, word of a major failure of peer review spanning years and 11 journals.
Researcher Who Studied Benefits Of Red Wine Falsified Data Says University
An extensive misconduct investigation that took three years to complete and produced a 60,000-page report, concludes that a researcher who has come to prominence in recent years for his investigations into the beneficial properties of resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, is guilty of 145 counts of fabrication and falsification of data.
In a statement published on the universitys news website on Wednesday, the University of Connecticut (UConn) Health Center said the investigation has led them to inform 11 scientific journals that had published studies conducted by Dr Dipak K. Das, a professor in the unversitys Department of Surgery and director of its Cardiovascular Research Center.
The internal investigation, which covered seven years of work in Dass lab, was triggered by an anonyomous allegation of research irregularities in 2008.

Red alert for the wine country.

Wheres the US Office of Research Integrity (ORI) on Climate Research and the IPCC?
Based on my own observations, I’m more likely to believe the red wine theories than I am the climate nonsense.
I will ignore this!
I read the article with considerable interest, because I’ve been taking a bit of Resveratrol as a supplement that is supposed to be an excellent anti-oxident.
Certainly there have been numerous studies suggesting that red wine (and beer) are good for you in moderate amounts.
Another scientist named Barzilai, at the Albert Einstein Institute, says that this guy was just a minor player. “Barzilai told AP lots of labs around the world are conducting extensive research into resveratrol, with encouraging results, and the new allegation will not make a material difference.”
Good. I kind of like the idea of not continuing to spend money on useless supplements, but it looks like as if this one is still a good to be recommended.

13 Jan: UK Daily Mail: Whod have predicted that? Blundering Met Office weathermen are handed even bigger bonuses
The performance-related bonuses, up from £2.6million the previous year, were revealed by the Department for Business yesterday in response to a question from Sammy Wilson MP.
Mr Wilson, Democratic Unionist Party MP for East Antrim, said: Its a bit ironic in the week that the Prime Minister has talked about ending this bonus culture and bonuses for failure, that a government body has awarded its staff a 30 per cent hike.
This was the year that it got the weather dramatically wrong, when we had the coldest winter after they predicted it was going to be one of the warmest

Might want to check and see who is funding the researchers.
Does thish mean that my $8/day inveshtment In Two Buck Chuck hash been “wasted”?
Charles Shaw merlot still $1.99 at Trader Joe’s at least in California.
Burp.
People in Sonoma county should all be living to 100+.
Oops, X is bad for you again.
Don’t worry, it will be deemed good again in a couple years. But then bad again, then...
The Thunderbird wine company will sponsor the research....LOL!
Sounds like the report itself is misconduct.
I like the idea of cellular regeneration, they did a encouraging treatment where they filtered old cells out of a old mouse and it started behaving a lot younger physically speaking.
I like the idea of having people not only be able to grow older, but being able to be physically fit and as able bodied as a 30-40 year old well into their 90’s - 100’s.
If I could live to be 1,000 years old I would definitely NEVER retire and would be a lot happier if I could maintain a physical health level of my 30’s - 40’s until one day in my early 1,000’s I would just go to sleep and not wake up.
The problem with aging is that when you get so old you cannot take care of yourself, so thus you end up with a large group of people expecting to be taken care of by the government. (not that it doesn’t stop youngsters from feeling entitled either).
Chocolate is still good isn’t it? Don’t tell me chocolate is a scam too!?! ;^)
I’m glad. After all those years of trying to like the stuff, pretending to like the stuff, a few years ago, I finally admitted that I really don’t like wine. Now I don’t have to feel guilty about it.
“Chocolate is still good isnt it? Dont tell me chocolate is a scam too!?! ;^)”
My ex-fiancee thought chocolate was toxic. The key word being “ex”.
“there have been numerous studies suggesting that red wine (and beer) are good for you in moderate amounts.”
The “moderate amounts” ain’t workin’ for me!
