The Farmers' Almanac recently issued their outlook for the 2011-2012 winter season and are predicting a wet and wild winter for much of the nation. According to their forecasters, the Farmers' Almanac is predicting a season of "crime and punishment" with lots of unusually cold and stormy conditions.
In the northern Plains, northern Rockies, and western Great Lakes, folks can expect frigid cold temperatures while those in the southern and eastern United States will experience above average temperatures. Near normal temperatures are predicted for the Midwest and far western parts of the country.

Me, too, but I’ll have to dress for 30 below or colder. We’re about where we were back in 1982, weather wise.
Gosh I hope that it’s correct. It says normal temps, low precipitation in this area. The 6 months of winter is bad enough, I’m so sick of snow it’s not even funny. Of course, they practice cloud seeding here, each and every year, needed or not, in the winter months (there was an article in the paper a few months back), at a taxpayer cost of about $250k per year, so we’ll still get plenty.
You might as well throw darts.......
Did I really need to tell this to a dude who works outside?
:-)
For the first time in over 30 years, we lost power over the region during a blizzard, and the rig I was working on was shut down for 36 hours because of the weather. (I have been on rigs which kept going with temps below -50 and wind chills off the chart.)
An 'average' snowfall year would be nice, but here that means more colder weather.
I know some of you all will not feel sorry for us at all but we have already had two nights in Houston in the lower 40’s already this fall. Been here since ‘85 and don’t recall it ever being this cold this early. It’s cold and dry instead of hot and dry.
It only gets to be about -30 here, but I’m from the hot Desert which was generally in the 30’s to 40’s. Some weeks we never get about -10º, and while I hate that weather, I never want to be in 115-120º again. Urban heat effect can kiss the ole keister, ;-)
I dunno if I feel “Sorry” for you, but I empathize. For those who seldom experience it, the cold can be brutal. I remember the first year I moved from Zone 8 to Zone 4, man I was cold. I started wearing T-shirts and felt hot when it finally got up to 45-50 (of course the snow reflecting the sun, really warmed you up!). Keep warm now, ya hear!
I had a hunch it was going to be a very wet and cold winter this year.
Today’s weather reports show a couple of big storms coming in from the Gulf of Alaska. More on the way.
In Texas we hope it’s going to be wet!
The South Mild and wet.
“I started wearing t-shirts and felt hot when it finally .. up to 45-50”
That’s pneumonia weather... go put on a sweater! LOL!
It amazes me that I have worked in a temperature range from -60 to 120 above, and that that 180 degree difference is the same difference as that between freexing water and boiling it.
My preference? About 65 above.
Lemme dream of a mild winter for just a day, ok? ;-)
Weird. We haven't yet had temps that low in the DFW area.
It’s heading for the fifties today in New England...been thinking about going for a swim later. :-)
I spoke too soon. Just heard on the radio that it’s going to dip down to 35 tomorrow night.
My....that is cold for that region. I'm from SoCal, and can appreciate that.
