With FOX broadcaster Joe Buck echoing his father's well-known call by saying, "We will see you tomorrow night," after the Cardinals' epic 10-9 win over the Rangers in Game 6 of the World Series on Thursday, it conjured memories of the Twins' win in similar fashion over the Braves in Game 6 of the 1991 World Series.
It was legendary broadcaster Jack Buck who famously said, "And we'll see you tomorrow night," after Twins center fielder Kirby Puckett launched a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the 11th inning at the Metrodome to send the Series to a seventh game.
Exactly 20 years and one day later, it was the younger Buck paying tribute to his father's call when Cardinals third baseman David Freese connected with a solo homer to open the bottom of the 11th inning at Busch Stadium to push the World Series to a decisive Game 7 on Friday night.

Baseball is not for the faint of heart, my friends. As rally squirrel would say, that game was NUTS.
I was glad the TWinkies pulled off to WS trophies in ‘87 and ‘91 and the ‘65 series v. Dodgers almost as well.. it helps ease the pain of all the Vike losses at SBs.. (Bud Great deserved at least one, oh vell)
Kirby and Hrbek ,, Jack Morris and crew, they got it done and on the relative cheap compared to today..
It was a good one.
Not a good night for the Rangers to play like the Bad News Bears.
You've got that right. Not taking anything away from the steller, dramatic finish by the Cards, the monumental collapse of the Rangers will long be remembered, especially here in Texas. I think last night is a bridge too far and our hometown team is so dispirited that it can't be overcome. I see another game #3 on tap tonight with the Cardinals (a team of destiny this year) romping to a huge finish over the hapless Rangers.
As they say in Field of Dreams, "ease his pain." My pain (and those of my co-workers here at the shop) from last night's blown opportunities still stings. I'm sure the same could be said for Nolan Ryan and George W. Bush.
Listening to good baseball announcers call a great game has always been something special. It must be something unique to the subtle and incredibly tactical game of baseball. It’s not the same with any other sport. Last night was a great example, listening to a good baseball announcer makes you smarter.. I never felt that way with say John Madden or god help us all, Troy Aikman.
Can’t wait for the grand finale.
I have to wonder, then, what listen to Orel Hershiser will do. I was listenin in on ESPN radio last night. What a gas bag.
Buck is such a Cards homer. Can’t blame him, though. It must be very special for him to call Cards games as his legendary father did.
I was really hoping for the Rangers to win. It was an amazing game, but it was part of the reason why I hate baseball. So damn stressful! Every pitch is so dramatic.
There really is nothing like playoff baseball.
The operative word is “good”. Can’t say I’ve heard Orel for quite some time.
Baseball buzzing about game for the ages ~~ (Boston Globe)
The greatest World Series game ever, or one of the greatest? Fans were debating the head-scratching decisions, amateurish mix-ups and mighty clutch performances of Game 6 on Friday, eagerly rehashing a series of performances unmatched in the championship's 108-year history.
Go RANGERS! Woo-hoo!
Until the Dodgers return to Brooklyn, it can never be right...
Baseball is tough.... everyone poised on the verge of heartbreak or ecstasy, wondering who it will be. The suspense is too much!! But I love it, can't help myself:)
LOL!
Baseball has often been referred to as a game of chess on a sports field.
Problem is, this guy announces it like it was a real chess game.
Yawn.
Playoff baseball is a new thing for those of us in the Dallas area. In fact, comparied to the storied history of the Cards and other teams, our Rangers are still n00bs (sadly evidenced in spades last night).
But you're right, the stress level was through the roof last night. I think part of the reason is baseball is such a cerebral game. It lacks the brute force of football and the speed of basketball and hockey so the focus is on the mind...and mine is just plain worn out from last night's classic.
I have steeled myself for a Rangers loss in game 7 and will probably watch the TCU-BYU game instead to spare myself the downer of another humiliating meldown after expectations were raised so high.
Yes. It's really too bad that MLB Network doesn't simulcast the games, because its on-air talent is so much better than anyone at Fox or the 4 letter network. Rob Dibble (of the Nasty Boys) hosts a morning show on MLB Radio and he's outstanding.
I never get nervous during a baseball game like I do during a football game, but this one last night had me chewing my nails.
Exciting? Absolutely. Great? No. I've seen better played games in Little League.
How does Nelson Cruz not make that catch in the 9th? How? How does that happen?
As Mike Stanton said this morning, "man, both of these teams suck."
Angst? You think this was exciting, nail biting?
Talk to anyone in Red Sox Nation.
Tell me when you suffered through ‘67, ‘75, ‘78, and ‘86.
I was sending Bill Buckner “waves’ to the Rangers, just so they would have a small feeling of how we felt years ago.
Great games end 2-1 or 1-0, not 10-9.
