Okay, you want a GREAT food deal but you don't like fiddling around with coupons. Good news! I have been taking advantage of an incredible bargain at Walmart for several weeks. Here it is:
A 2 lb bag of frozen WILD flounder for just $5.27. That is only $2.63 per pound. I stress WILD because wild caught fish are much better than farm raised fish which just don't have the same rich taste.
I am now eating this WILD flounder at least 3 times per week, including last night. What is great about it is not only the flavor but also the texture. It is best cooked with onions and Adobe seasoning.
Compare this price to that of the cost of flounder in Publix which is $7.99 for a 20 oz bag. I've eaten tilapia but, believe me, WILD flounder is much better.
The NYTimes once bought samples of fish sold as ‘wild’ and sent them to a DNA lab. About 2/3 were from farms.
Well, the flounder I tried sure tastes good. Would be interested in genetic test results. This flounder is from a big line of fish from the same company so I don’t know if they would risk legal action from false advertising.
“Substitution” is rampant in much of the seafood industry....especially on the east coast.
The weird thing is that I checked the reviews of this Walmart flounder and most hate it. Either my palate is wildly different from others or my wife is just a great cook. She is at her culinary best when cooking fish.
Thanks for the idea, BUT, brand, and upc code would insure we are getting the same thing you are buying. Hopefully seen as a positive comment.

That’s good, because you should only eat wild, bottom-feeding fish once per week, so if PJ eats flounder 3 times per week, and 2/3 are from farms...
Product of which country?
At regular intervals, Publix will sell a $50 Shell gas card for $40. You have to watch, though.
Probably used it to test the tensile strength and resistance to leaks of the newspaper when used for its primary purpose.
I cringe at WAL8MART meat products. I have had their Tilapia...tasted like dirty feet...absolutely gross...and don’t get me going on their beef..from cows limping to the slaughter house or in wheelchairs..the toughest meat I have ever eaten...even the hamburger...all ground up is hard to swallow. I bought roast there when they first opened in my area..looked great until I turned it over..it was the prettiest shade of navy blue...I will stick with my local market for my protein thank you.
Here in Indiana, you can always beat Wal-Mart meat prices if you buy the sales at the other grocers.
I tried frozen tilapia just once, because the price was right. It was awful. Must have been farm-raised in the finest Chinese cesspool. One bite, threw the rest out. It wasn't fit for a cat to eat. It wasn't fit for a hog to eat, for that matter.
Thats what tilapia is supposed to taste like, isn’t it?
I don't know of any farm raised flounder or sole. I don't think it's done.
I think it is Walmart brand. Comes in a purple colored bag at Walmart. 2 lb.
Arrowtooth.
I’m seriously thinking of hunting for Lionfish. They are invasive species which is supposed to taste terrific. Because they are invasive, no limits on hunting them. Need to see if I can find them on a reef off Fort Lauderdale.
Amaranth and millet bought in bulk at Whole Foods are low priced. Just stay away from any non-bulk foods there.
Potatoes. They’re always a bargain. Ridiculously cheap, stay fresh for a long time, very versatile.
