Not a surprise. No, they don’t really censor TV any more unless its egregious. There is NO show on TV fit for family viewing. None.
The pictures were of Molly at Yoga class and her instructor helping her.
of course there are standards if it was on a broadcast network (ABC, NBC or CBS)
Mainstream cable has managed to keep some standards although it is not a legal issue for them.
dont normally see anyone stripping naked or using the f bomb unless it is HBO. thats fair enough.
I watched that last night. It was taken out of context. Molly was taking a yoga class, and her sister thought that the way the yoga instructor was helping her get into the proper yoga positions looked sexual. Her sister thought it would be something funny to show at her bachlorette party.
Hey, fat people need romance too!
My wife loves that show, yet neither one of us is fat, well, at least I’m not obese.
Yup.
I believe that.
Really.
Truly.
2 fat people dating each other show.
You’d have to pay me to watch it.
He's also responsible for "Two and Half Men", "Big Bang Theory" and other bad shows. He relentlessly emphasizes tawdry sex jokes. I don't think he understands that other kinds of humor are also acceptable.
If you don’t like what’s on tv don’t watch. I watch baseball, that’s about all. If I want to watch a movie or something I’ll rent it.
If you have Puritan standards there are endless television shows from the 50’s and 60’s available on DVD.
There can be naked people on broadcast nowadays. I think the first one after the new rule was a dead woman’s body shown fully, on that cop show Ricky Shroeder was on.
...
is there a prime time broadcast show that does not emphasize tawdry sex jokes?
My sister was watching TV tonight I heard the punchline “I was masturbating” on at least 3 of them.
That is why kids are so messed up these days.
They will be airing kiddie porn pretty soon at this rate.
I guess just about all shows today are tawdry and overly sexual. But I would still maintain that Chuck Lorre tries very hard to push the envelope on network TV. The man desperately wants to produce crap, and he succeeds.
That’s kinda what I’m saying.
Under the guise of “fat acceptance” we get to see some trash and if we complain, then we’re picking on fat people.
Homosexuality has already become pretty much run of the mill on TV.
What’s next? Mass murderer stand up comedy?
“Mike & Molly”? I think Molly just won the best actress Enmy.
Have not/will not watch it. Nope.
I basically only watch NatGeoWild, Military Channel and DIY Channel these days. Oh, and I’ll cherry pick Wonder Years episodes on the Hub Channel.
I’ve become hooked on “Dog Whisperer”.
I’m not even watching NFL anymore.
Turned off television for good two years ago. Didn’t see it. Don’t miss it. Life is brief.
Eeeewwwww.
I guess this is why I don't watch a lot of TV.
I do like "South Park, though and that one can get pretty gross.
Wasn’t it Newton Minow that said “TV is a vast wasteland”?
There’s a “comedy” based on Whitey Bulger that’s going to star John Malkovich as a friendly serial killer in pre-production.
IIRC, one of the producers from Seinfeld is behind it. It was in the Boston Herald last week.
Kill your TV set.
I never saw an ad the same.
I STILL look at ice cubes
You were obviously tuning in for Hawaii 5-0. Isn’t it great that they got rid of the nerdy chick and slipped in a way hot chick to replace her? Looks like it will be a good season.
We were only allowed to watch “Little House on the Prairie,” “The Waltons,” “The Brady Bunch”..... “Chips”... :0)
The tv shows today, however, really disgust me. The sitcoms especially are so pushing to say every vulgar and crass word, as often as possible. Not only a dumbed-down nation, but a complete lack of respect for anything. I keep wondering what is next too - bestiality, four and a half men fake-married to four goats...
I remember the book well myself. That and all the backwards masking stuff was all the rage in about the same time-frame.
I hope you haven’t been watching the Red Sox, ouch.
Didn’t see it but that’s a total steal of the only funny scene in Couples Retreat. Also obcene in the movie.
Honestly, I spend most of my time on the internet, my laptop sits on my coffee table and is always on.
But I usually have the tube on in the background. There are still a couple decent shows.
NYPD Blue showed Charlotte Ross’s @ss. ER had a character say “**it happens” around the same time.
I don’t think you could get away with either today.
No nudity allowed, but you can have fully clothed people simulate orgasms, weird standards.
I watched the season opener for Boardwalk Empire. OK! And the last Breaking Bad was terrific. Too bad that new Dinasaur show is not on demand. I have no way to record stuff.
I love the net, and nowadays, there are options. I have a roku box for streaming movies from netflix etc if I want. I am so busy that most of my available downtime is here on my laptop. When I had tv, I kept surfing for movies. Now I have movies galore, more than I have time for.
I feel like when I was a kid, I squandered a lifetime's worth of time on TV. I'm going on 44 yrs old, and I feel the movement of time more than I once did. I just don't want to waste time if I can help it.
When I lay dying, will I think to myself, "I wish I'd watched more TV?"
Lately, I got into Amazon which is great for movies. Alot of the classic movies have been re-released with all sorts of exended features on the actors, etc. I got the 2 disk version of “Dog Day Afternoon” and there was tons of stuff on it about making the movie, etc.
Lumet has always been one of my favorite directors anyhow...
No, you will think you should have read more FreeRepublic. That should get me many bonus points.
"Network" is one of my all time favorites. I can watch it again and again, as I do with all my favorite movies. I've watched "Millers Crossing" (big time Coen bros fan) more times than I can count.
I love noir--anything with Edward G Robinson. I love neo-noir--LA Confidential, Chinatown. Classic gangsters--Godfather, Goodfellas. All movies that can be watched over and over.
And I LOVE 70s dystopian sci-fi...Logan's Run, Soylent Green, THX 1138.
I question my time spent here. I think it is the fact that I like writing so much that makes me enjoy it here. But I do put it to the test. I am very wary of squandering time.
“incidental” (dead bodies) nudity is allowed
I am barely still in my 40s and understand time speeding up. From a freedom, liberty, and USA perspective, FreeRepublic is time well spent. I fully understand the quandary however. So far FreeRepublic is winning!
lol! I'm here 10 years now! Since my mid-30s! I hear ya!
You're carrying on like the sight gag of people engaged in an innocent act that resembles a sexual position is brand new. It isn't.
Next to Highlander 2, Couples retreat is the only movie i ever walked out of.
Horrible.
Big difference between a feature film and me running into it at 8:30 PM on a regular TV network...
But maybe you are right. I should ignore my sensibilities and just shut up.
Anything goes, eh?
As long as it draws attention and sells product, it’s good, right?
I think there are many....we watch NCIS, The Amazing Race, Survivor and a few others that are family worthy of watching. But you are right, overall not so many good programs for a family to sit down and watch. I don’t know how old you are but the days of “The Waltons”, “Eight is Enough” and other programs like that are sadly over.
That was NYPD Blue.
I thought Couples Retreat was funny. I don’t remember anything about it but I believe watching it I enjoyed it......
I’ve only seen CR on cable for free. Its awful but I find even the worst movies grow on you after repeated viewing on cable. The one exception is Dune, I walked out and to this day can only watch it briefly to laugh at it with my daughter.
≤}B^)
After the broadcast was over, I rewound the tape and played back that part, just to be sure.
≤}B^)
Our republic is under assault by Marxist wolves in our midst, and you’re worrying about a tick infestation. Nice priorities.
No way, Impy. The Sox channel, NESN, is in an extra channel package, and I refuse to fund that group of leftist loons (the Red Sox front office, that is).
My contribution to starving the beast and all that...
The government is made of people.
If the people are not moral, you expect the government to be squeaky clean?
Not even close, dude.
