Obama’s Disquieting Heroic Fantasies
Commentarymagazine.com ^ | September 26, 2011 | Peter Wehner

At a speech before the Congressional Black Caucus this weekend, President Obama told the crowd, “I don’t have time to feel sorry for myself. I don’t have time to complain.” He also told the CBC to “take off your bedroom slippers” and “put on your marching shoes.” And he scolded them to “stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying.”

I have written before about Obama’s deep, almost desperate, need to portray himself as the opposite of what he is, to conceive of himself in a way that is at odds with reality. We have seen it in all sorts of areas, including claiming himself to be a voice of civility, portraying himself as a champion of bi-partisanship, lecturing others about profligate spending, and saying he is the only responsible “adult” in Washington. Now we see this habit in a new arena – this time, the president as Obama the Stoic, a man so committed to “pressing on” for the cause of social justice he just doesn’t have time to feel sorry for himself. Indeed, he has now decided to sermonize to others not to complain, not to grumble, and to “stop crying.”

This is akin to John Edwards hosting a weekend seminar on the importance of marital fidelity.

If there has been a president in my lifetime who has felt more sorry for himself – who has laid the blame for his failures on more people (George W. Bush, the Congressional GOP, the Tea Party, conservative talk radio hosts, millionaires and billionaires) and more things (ATMs, Japanese tsunamis, the Arab Spring, Fox News, Wall Street, et cetera) – I can’t think of who that might be. As the wheels on the Obama presidency come off, as his record of ineptness becomes more indisputable, Obama is becoming more intemperate, more aggrieved... SNIP

“I don’t have time to complain.”

LOL! All he ever DOES is complain. Our whiner-in-chief.

"“I don’t have time to feel sorry for myself. I don’t have time to complain.”

---the words of the all-time champion Bitcher-in-Chief, Barack Obama.

This was just stunning. You have to wonder if he was somehow lecturing himself.

do people still use bedroom slippers? I have heard of house shoes but do you need slippers just for use in the bedroom? Is their floor that sticky, dirty?

I understand in Japan they have shoes for the house and shoes specifically for the bathroom.

but bedroom slippers.... I dunno

What we are seeing is a president attempt to create, almost out of whole cloth, his own character, his own narrative, his own truth. That might work in an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel; it works less well in an American presidential campaign.

Uh, it seemed to work just fine for this assclown. BamBam's entire freakin' LIFE has been created "out of whole cloth" and foisted on this country.

And speaking of fantasy, it takes some pretty fantastical gonads to sermonize to people who are out of work, out of investments, out of homes, etc. while your wife sports $50K baubles on her wrist, gratis.

POS.

We do. Our floors are cold here in Massachusetts during the winter. Early in the morning, it’s quite chilly in the house.

I think house shoes and bedroom slippers are essentially the same thing. It depends on what’s said in your neck of the woods. Kind of like soda or pop.

“Obama’s Disquieting Heroic Fantasies”

At first glance, I read this title as:

‘Obama’s Disquieting Heroin Fantasies’!

It didn’t faze me at all. I just moved to the next article!

Well, the speech was memorable to me, but not in the way president butthead would want it.

When I heard the replay of the “Prees on” crap, I cracked up laughing, recalling the old 3 Stooges “press button” skit where they get into event by showing bathroom buttons: Moe: “Press!”; Larry:”Press!”; Curly: “Pull!”...

I am one of those who believe that Obama is a malignant narcissist so I believe that he exercises a form of ‘emotional amnesia’. This means that as he assumes different attitudes and martyr poses- at that moment he does not recall himself as ever having had different feelings, complaints or actions. This means he can moan that he is being abused one day and brag that he is stoic the next with the appearance of sincerity because he only exists at the moment he speaks and he believes he has convinced us of the truth of he words as he says them. This would be dangerous behavior for a person even if he were not POTUS. Malignant narcissists don’t take defeat well (he’ll never admit to failure so he will convince himself that the forces of evil are arrayed against him) and so I believe he will try to damage the presidency and the people as much as possible as he goes down. I think he is hard at work on that last task by trying to build up as much class and race division as possible - ALL HAIL THE GREAT UNITER!

I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of “house” shoes. I suppose that slippers may not be necessary in warm climates. In the summer, I don’t wear slippers.

Well bedroom slippers can help reduce the dislocation of toes running into bedroom furniture...

Soda or pop?

We always said “Coke” growing up in Texas, but we always meant Dr. Pepper!!

Down here in Alabama we wear house shoes to not get the floors dirty since we are barefoot when we are outside. ;-)

I followed the link you provided and read with open-mouthed surprise the degree to which the the left is living in an alternate reality where Obama is, ‘at heart’ a ‘problem solver’!!!! Oh the article is an entire tour of THE MATRIX of denial.

“President Obama the problem-solver is turning into President Obama the warrior. It just might save him.”

Oh I don’t think so, Sparky! Let him try to convince our real warriors in the military that HE is a warrior. All I can picture is him in mom jeans riding a women’s bike with his Urkel posture on display.

Same in Alabama, it is always fun to see the look on my northern relatives faces when I ask them what kind of coke they would like.
