Being a (rather conservative) Democrat 23 years ago is a disqualifier? One of the most conservative guys I know is a Republican state legislator; in 1988 he was a liberal Democrat - he even voted for Dukakis.

Perry hasn’t really changed, nor has Al Gore. Only 4 years ago Perry backed Demonrat-in-all-but-name Rudy Giuliani for President. He echoes the idiocy of G.W. Bush regarding illegal aliens and Muslims (”Islam is a great religion”—R. P.).
