After two years of sucking that Texas Workforce Commission's hind teat, I got a job today.
It hasn't even sunk in yet, but once I sign the W4 and see my mug on a security badge key, I'll believe it.
It took a couple of months for it to sink in that I needed another job. Probably pushed 2500 resumes into the black hole that is the internet job board world, barely a peep back on all my submissions. I got a part-time job, helped some contractor buddies with their stuff, and pretty much burned through all my savings and severance money, but I just couldn't allow myself to give up. Even when I never heard back on an interview that seemed to go really well.
But God has smiled and I start my new gig on the 22nd of this month. The drive is more than I'd prefer, but the money is good and there is plenty of room to grow. It's a W2 contract so I have no bennies, but I will have real money coming in again, soon.
Fix some stuff around the house, pay off my credit cards, take She Who Must Be Obeyed out to a nice dinner to celebrate, then ... new guns! Maybe even a new truck next year at some point.
Happy days are here again.
Congratulations on your new job! God bless you and your bride.
I’m so happy for you!
Congratulations. Good news is hard to come by these days, and always welcome.
Word of advice: Stay away from Obama Motors (GM).
Congrats!
Congratulations, good news for sure.
Great news! I’m so happy for you!
Congratulations to you! (and your persistence)
Go Brother!
Heart felt Thank You to all.
Nope, I think I’m a Ford man now, after buying nothing but GM products for the last couple of decades, I got my eye on an F150 4x4 next. Nice camper shell on the back, few custom tweaks I’ll do myself like extra battery, lights, some other stuff, and I’m back to camping and riding my bike in the wilderness again by next summer. A week on Padre Island with just me and the little woman will go a long way toward reinstating a positive opinion of myself.
It will be good to be able to hold my head up again and stop taking handouts from the government.
Congrats! Your perseverance and hard work paid off!
Congratulations! Best of luck!
Good for you!!!!
I’m happy to hear of your good fortune. I have family & friends in the same position struggling by on part time and lower paying jobs, but we have to keep the faith FRiend. My office just hired an out of work teacher as a receptionist, what a strange time we live in.
Sounds right to me!
Congratulations.
Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your good news!
Honestly, that's why it took you over two years....nothing beats old fashioned doorknocking; something I learned the hard way. But seriously, good on ya. May it be a good, secure and long lasting gig.
F150 sounds great. Your good news made my day.
Actually, like I was told after my separation, networking is the name of the game. You have to link up with people you know. They will drop your resume on the top of the pile. I got this gig through a mountain biking buddy of mine. Trying to get their attention by emailing resumes got me maybe 3-4 interviews, none panned out.
What a relief to be a productive member of society again. I was never off work for more than a month in 35 years, then this hit. I was at my former place for 15 years, knew where all the bodies were buried, always figured I was irreplaceable. These are different times than when I grew up and came into the workforce.
Thank you God, thank you Jesus. All the prayers, all the digging through 30 emails every day, all the disappointments, that is behind me now.
I may have to throw a party. Margaritas are on me FReepers. How do I do virtual Patron Anejo?
