Happiness is based on wife being slimmer than husband, according to study

The secret to maintaining a happy marriage is based on the wife remaining slimmer than her husband, according to a new study.

Researchers claim both partners are more content if the woman has a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) than the man.

A four-year study found that relationships lasted longer if the woman felt more attractive and desirable than her other half.

But relationship experts have already dismissed the findings, insisting that size is not necessarily a key factor in a husband finding his wife attractive.

The study at the University of Tennessee selected 169 married couples under the age of 35 and asked them to fill in questionnaires every six months for four years.

The findings discovered that men with a higher BMI than their wives were happier at the start of their marriage and stayed that way.

Equally women with a lower BMI than their husbands were happier than those who weighed more.

The findings could perhaps shed some light on last week's announcement that Jennifer Lopez, who is celebrated for her curvy figure, was splitting from her thinner husband Marc Anthony after seven years together.

This might explain .001% of the data. Was this just a single attribute study?

Save some money and cut public funding for such studies.

Boy, that's a pathetic nonsequitur. Maybe the fact that she's a raving nutter and he's a gerbil had something to do with their split.

Did the researchers evaluate the raving nutter x gerbil factor in their sample population?

The paperwork has been filed, but the grant for that one hasn't come through yet.

Most women constantly worry about their weight (”does this make me look fat?”) while most older men never notice that they have grown fat, bald, out of shape (or just OLD). Just look at Hugh Hefner or the late Ted Kennedy! Hideous old guys who thought they still “got it”. Wives are more forgiving of imperfections :)

I'd say it's more a case of "If you can't or won't lose weight, then make the people around you fatter".

Don’t women normally have a higher BMI than men?

This study is ridiculous. It draws conclusions in the simplest way possible.

I could say, “Everyone who has died has drank water. Therefore water kills people,” and my conclusions would make as much sense.

Most women who gain weight do so out of a state of ill-health. PCOS, T2 Diabetes, etc. Many times women lose control over their bodies simply because they’re overwhelmed. The put their children, house and husband first and have no energy left for themselves. (Do that for 5-10 years and see what you get.)

Add all that up, and one could say that women who gain weight are unhealthier and/or more exhausted.

I would think that they’d also be unhappier, less fun and nag a bit more.

Um, that’s “...NEVER make a pretty woman your wife.”

Not so. It’s an ‘ugly woman’ who the singer recommends as a wife.

They'd better hurry, before more celebrity couples bite the dust!

>>> This article could draw some passionate responses.:-)

Especially from the people who can’t differentiate between the actual legal system and a daytime soap opera. Rabble rousing sensationalism.

Indigents are Constitutionally entitled to legal representation paid for by the state. She was in jail for the last three years, not working a shift at Ford. From what I understand, she cannot yet sell her story for fears from the news agencies the public will be upset. So the state will pay.

>>> but if she wins that fight she will not have to pay back the hundreds of thousands of dollars that law enforcement spent searching for her daughter Caylee, if she cashes in on Caylee’s death.

Under what theory of law would she be liable? What statues in that jurisdiction provide for such billing? She didn’t hire them and default on a service-contract payment.

And I’m sure the journalist here knows both points.

The Sprats wouldn’t agree w/this......

Jack Sprat could eat no fat
His wife could eat no lean
And so betwixt the two of them
They licked the platter clean
