Did it have something to do with the DUI?
Are you KIDDING?
The nanny state will RUIN YOUR LIFE FOR A YEAR for having a few drinks (.08) before entering your car.
Should you ever do it again you go to jail and your life is ruined FOREVER.
Walk into a courthouse in your town and look at the morning dockets:
MADD and the cops have exercised more power over the everyday lives of regular law-abiding citizens, ashamedly creeping their way around DUI convictions while feeding the courts and lawyers billions, than you can possibly imagine.

I share your disgust with the system (where I live, I am leery of swishing mouthwash in the AM!), but I was thinking about the loss of his own [5-year-old] sister to a drunk driver.
I was wondering if he had convinced himself that he was no better than his sister’s killer. Sure looks like he had many heavy burdens to carry in his life. Despite his efforts to overcome, the load reached critical mass nonetheless. /keyboard shrink
Sad. :(
Assumption #1 on your part: Since this story has a context, a specific person getting a DUI. On what grounds do you make the case that Peterson had only "a few drinks (.08)"? Have you seen police evidence or articles saying that? If not, why do you attach an assumption to this case of the level of drinking hovering near where the border has been drawn? (.08) Or, do you this built-in bias vs. all/most/many DUI cases & claim there's no such thing as "drunk driving?"
Assumption #2: Without qualifying your statement, you present a case that alcohol-impaired drivers are "law abiding citizens." Hmmm...exactly where are your "social justice crusaders" marching on D.C. about this obvious mass injustice taking place nation-wide?
Perhaps you should learn from the homosexual lobby & make your case public that alcoholic-impaired drivers have an in-born predisposition to alcohol & therefore it's a natural daily part of who they are. Then you could get all the "social justice" types to rally behind you like they do the homosexuals.
