Readers Poll: The Best Prog Rock Bands of All Time

Last week, we asked our readers to vote for their favorite progressive rock bands. Looking over the results, it's a real pity that only two of the bands are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Here's hoping that the class of 2012 is entirely prog. (Just imagine the epic jam between Yes, King Crimson and Rush the stage would buckle under the weight of the countless people that have played in the first two bands.) Anyway, until that magical day happens, click though to see the results of the poll.

Holy cow! Rolling stone actually recognizes "Prog-Rock" as "legitimate Music!" Of course, they had to toss in a couple of bands that aren't really "prog" just to show that they're still "edgy" (Tool & Mars Volta as "Prog-Rock?").
Not sure I agree with the order, but all in all, it's a pretty good line-up, with a fair number of great prog-rock bands left off... I guess that's always to be expected when you're limited to 10.

Dream Theater, Savatage(aka: Trans Siberian Orchestra), and Queensrÿche would all be at or near the top of my list.

I thought
Rolling Stone was a Marxist/Leninist propaganda magazine.
Are you telling me they cover music now...?

Are you telling me they cover music now...? Only the most popular or what Jan Wenner considers "edgy." For as long as I can remember, they've dissed anything remotely "progressive," at least as far as music goes... Weird, since the magazine is rabidly "progressive" politically!"

Frank Zappa makes these bands look like a bunch of kindergartners. Ian Anderson will say it, too.

Jan Wenner is an adulterous gay Marxist.
Why would you ever want to read his vile publication?

Tool & Mars Volta as "Prog-Rock?"
Rolling Stoner still proves how lame they are, even decades later. How are they still in business?
Hmm . . . no sign of Uriah Heep, Tangerine Dream, or even Quatermass . . .

The Jennifer Aniston cover ... oh, different topic.
Anyway, Dream Theater was a favorite band of the radio DJ who died in the Great White club fire in Rhode Island.
Otherwise, Rush and Yes for me.

Well, the poll is wrong, King Crimson is #1 of the mainstream prog bands.
Of course, there’s always non-mainstream.....

Yeah, I saw that. Was quite a surprise, given how they were never a household name. I met their guitarist in a bar at a restaurant once. He was one of the coolest musicians I’ve ever met. Their bassist was always one of my idols, musically.

The only group that I am familiar with on this list is the Pink Floyd. My favorite recording by them is
See Emily Play (1967).
To: KoRn
Spock's Beard (Neal Morse); Kansas; Iona.
