Right after ice off on the lakes many insects start hatching and this is a perfect time for fly-fishing. Rainbow or 'Kamloops' trout is the fish of choice on the small lakes and a day on one of these lakes whether you catch fish or not is one of life's most relaxing moment. I've seen deer and moose while fishing and ospreys have dived within a few meters, loons come close looking for a hand out and this time we filmed a fishermen giving his catch to a bald eagle.
That is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
Wow. I got a new 3 wt for Christmas. It would be about perfect for this bird feeding sport.
That was fun.....we lived in BC for 18 mo’s .... would go out fishing often.....went somewhere once where the fish jumped INTO THE BOAT! And a couple of Eagles sat in a tree watching.
I got a 7wt for Christmas but haven’t caught anything with it yet. :(
Your new 7 wt is plenty to sight cast for reds in Tx. bay flats. Or huge Co. lake trout. Enjoy!
It's basically like feeding ducks or pigeons, once you catch a fish. Or, you could just buy some dead fish, and throw them into the water.
Nice.
I used to work at a place that had a large reflecting lake on the property. Many ducks nested there around its shoreline and a mated pair of Golden Eagles nested in a nearby Douglas Fir.
I witnessed an eagle go after one of the ducks. The duck escaped, but the eagle ended up in the lake. Poor thing had to flap its way to shore!
It’s been several years now, but I once went on a fishing trip up into the mountains of BC. Miles and miles off the paved roads. Little mountain lakes so thick with trout you could fish with bare hooks. They bite anything that was bright and shiny. Hell... we had one just jump into the boat. The old cast iron frying pan got a good workout for a couple of weeks, that’s for sure.
That was a great trip. One little lake wasn’t any bigger than a football field and probably only four feet deep. We had to share the lake (pond?) with the biggest moose I’ve ever seen...
Fantastic Canadian accent.
I know some trout spots like that in Wyoming, you get the fire going and the grease hot before you start fishing. Some people treat trout fishing like they worship the fish for being smart and hard to catch. Actually IMO, they are some of G_D’s dumbest creatures, and except for brookies, damn poor eating so far as fish go.
Awesome video
Great post smokingfrog,
Wife son two dogs and I went camping three weeks ago in Kissimmee River State Park in south central Florida and we saw 14 blad eagles in two days or boating.
WOW.
One came within 20 feet of our boat fetching a fish.
What I wouldn't give for a plate of 8" Brookies(w/ heads on) and eggs for breakfast right now. Instead I have to settle for Frosted Mini Wheats because I live in Bass and Catfish country.
Even aliens have to pay their taxes to the “bird”..... >PS
