Once I a while I go “Out” to an actual restaurant, the tip if any, depends on the service, but it will never exceed 10%, our sales tax is 7%.

Why should the waiter expect more than the state & city mandate?

When I meet people who have done it for decades I tend to feel sorry for them, and wonder about their intelligence or commitment to a decent life.

Wow, I feel more sorry for you than I do for any hard-working waiter, my friend.

Why feel sorry for those who’ve done it for decades?

It’s decent, respectable work that is physically hard and often thankless.... but if they’re content and happy in life then kudos to them. It takes all kinds and it’s perfectly fine to choose to live a simpler life surrounded with less stuff.

My daughter was a waitress...And of course, we’ve had disagreements over this...
How do these people figure they should be worth 30-50 dollars an hour??? They are laborers...No skill...No education...
I know many people who work far harder for minimum wage...

You probably made a good call ;) I always treat everyone nice, even if they aren’t the best. But, if they are good waiter/waitress me and my hubby are always generous.

I was thinking the same thing. It’s a bit whinny if you have to complain about every little tip that isn’t right. You are going to have people that are stingy and people who are generous and those in between. It probably all works out in the end.

8% of sales is standard. have to be careful with how many people use their credit cards any more though. if a server gets auditted, the IRS can pull every credit card reciept for the year, add up all the tip amounts left on cards, and compare it to what was reported.

the owner of the establishment would be wise to fire any and all waitstaff who disrespects his money customer in such a way.

nope. notoriously bad tippers are a waste of time in a restaurant. they not only tip badly, but they also tend to be rude, picky, and demanding on top of ungrateful. They demand extra trips to the table and often send everything back on a regular basis for (often) percieved imperfections, which takes attention and promptness away from other tables the server is waiting on, and can be an irritation to neighboring tables.

I've worked restaurants for 18 years, and have never met a manager or owner that would rather have repeat business from a surly customer than a waitstaff that would try to drive that customer off in order to improve the dining experience of the other customers.

Indeed yes, why feel sorry for someone who willfully cannot possibly put away anything for “Retirement”, and who will expect that “Social Security” and Medicare will provide for their needs!

Of course they get a rude awakening when they do reach retirement age.

No doubt they support the socialist agenda, as they are not getting their “Fair Share”, so the rest of us should subsidize their third rate life choice.

(Yep, sarcasm)
