Military Pay Already Cut

Military Pay Preemptively Cut

Due to the potential shutdown of the federal government, we have "taken down" all Leave and Earnings Statements (LESes) or "Advice of Pays" for Active Duty Military and Reservists. We will re-post LESes when we receive more information on the shutdown or enacted legislation that authorizes pay beyond April 8. As long as this authority becomes available, we anticipate paying both active and reserve members their full pay for duty served from April 1-15.

I'm sorry if this has been reported already, but thought it was important to bring up.

I am a Reservist on Active Duty orders (6F0X1). Since I know DFAS works with an archaic Military Pay System for the Army and Air Force, I was wondering how my LES would kick out on MyPay given that last night was the mid-month military pay cut-off date for 15 Apr affecting transactions.

So when I logged on this morning, I was surprised to see my pay slashed in half with a debt in the deductions column. I knew what was going on, but was surprised that we received viturally NO guideance DFAS was going to do what they did. After talking to several of my colleagues at other bases, it was the same story. So, as you can imagine, our phones rang off the hook today with questions about what was going on.

It looked like active duty was okay, but somewhere around 9-10am EST, an update was ran that adjusted their mid-month pay as well. This is rare because I didn't think DFAS ran updates during the day (usually done at night).

Well, LES's generated onto MyPay and it took only a few hours for DFAS to get the message that they needed to pull them back. As a Reservist, I'm fortunate to get a mid-month LES that shows the breakdown, whereas active duty only get the bottom line number. So what was originally available online got pulled back after everybody got swarmed with calls and pay statements for the 15th aren't available for viewing.

The question I want to know is who authorized DFAS to enter the transaction to reduce the pay, and why weren't the Chain of Commands notified about it until AFTER it was proceessed? It makes me think the Administration is certain a shutdown is coming and they needed to take action in enough time given our old military pay system.

I will stop my comments here and let others discuss because I don't want to over-step the military/political line. I'm just peeved because it seems it was done without any notice to anybody.

In the first place, you don’t get paid today you leftist shill posing as a reservist. Checks come out for all military this Monday you wanker.

In the second place, you wouldn’t get paid HALF, you’d either get the whole thing or nothing.

I received an email today from a friend who’s deployed overseas. She said military pay statements came out on line today for the pay they should get on the 15th and all their statements show half the pay.
She’s been following the mess going on in DC and was still caught off guard by the announcement, saying, “The issue is not even decided officially and military serving overseas is getting half the pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

She’s no leftist shill and neither am I.

I believe you owe parksstp an apology for your outburst.

Why would the army pay half when the entire pay period has already been worked? Something smells fishy.

I thought there were essential departments that would get paid. I would assume the military is essential. Now, how about the chow hall and the barracks’ electric bill? Will those be paid? If they can’t pay the troops how are they going to fly airplanes?

If I was in and told I wasn’t getting paid I’d not go to work.

Um, I’m sorry, what planet are you living on?

Did I say I got paid today? NO. I said Leave and Earnings Statements Generated TODAY. WHY? Because there are cut-off dates to what can affect pay that goes out on the 15th and 1st of the Month. This allows members to see what they are going to get paid on the 15th.

You are flat out wrong on your second statement. Everybody’s pay has been adjusted for the 15th. The pay for the 15th is only for 1-8 April. The rest was set up as a debt to be paid to members when approriations are funded.

Leftist Shrill? Are you serious?

That is not what Robert Gates said and not how they explained it a few minutes ago on Fox. And getting back pay will take congressional action also familes of anyone killed in action will not collect their $100K

Obama has been planning this for a while. He is malicious and, in this instance, ‘dump truck*’ stupid.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a freely elected President, a tyrant, or a king, you always pay the soldiers and sailors. No support from the military, and in a revolt you’re toast.

What happened to Lakin was the result of fear on the part of military personnel in the chain of command. The ‘trial’ was a pooch screw and loaded with judicial errors. Now those folks who covered for Obama aren’t going to be paid.

WOW! Talk about stepping on your own crank!

*Change some of the letters and you’ll get the message.

Hey, ‘Du, how’re you?!?

I heard the same thing from my boss’s daughter. Also heard they may close commissaries overseas. That’s gonna stink, although it may be a rumor.

For those that understand the system, the story is very clear and explicit. Pulling back the posted pay statements without warning or explanation is hinky, and is indicative of a bureaucratic workforce in disarray.

latest from DFAS (on the military’s MyPay site):

“Due to the potential shutdown of the federal government, we have “taken down” all Leave and Earnings Statements (LESes) or “Advice of Pays” for Active Duty Military and Reservists. We will re-post LESes when we receive more information on the shutdown or enacted legislation that authorizes pay beyond April 8

“All military will get paid on April 15.

“If a CRA or appropriation is not passed before April 15, military members will be paid on April 15 for the period of April 1-8, approximately one half their normal mid month pay.

“If a CRA or appropriation is passed by Tuesday, April 12, military members will receive their full pay for duty served from April 1-15 on April 15.

If a CRA or appropriation is not until after April 12, DFAS will pay military members for the period of April 9-15 within 3 days of an appropriation or CRA being passed.”

Not a rumor. My daughter stationed at NAS JAX says the commissary will not be open starting tomorrow. NEX’s will remain open.
