Anyone think this is worth the money? I was thinking of getting it, but never hear much about it.

We have both models. The old one has its own hard drive and can store purchased tv shows and movies. The new one can’t, but, same as the old one, can access shows stored on a computer on a network. The new one downloads HD only, which forced us to get FiOS, and re-wire the home network. The old one cost $300 new, the new one cost $100. If you’re networked and have high speed internet, the new one should work fine. Shows rent for $.99 and movies from $.99 to $4.99.

My daughter’s laptop screen was broken on a recent plane flight. It was on the old side, so we unattached the screen, leaving the connection to the motherboard intact. We cleaned up the system and now have a really nice media server for our TV. Way better than Apple TV.

Love mine. Put it in kid’s TV room where there is no cable/satellite connection. Put on the Netflix and Baby is good to go. Pay $8/month for the streaming Netflix and works like a charm. Roku is another story....

I love the new Apple TV. I am stationed in Bahrain, so I cannot get a lot of “normal” tv. I have 4 children here with me. I was able to take all of those Disney Disks I have laying around (and getting scratched up) and handbrake them into digital format. They are all on my IMAC. With home share enabled, an entire library of movies is available for the kids to choose from electronically. Plus, you can stream netflix, youtube, etc. You can still lose your Internet connection and be able to communicate movie data via your wireless network.

Since Apple TV is wireless and attached to my TV across the room, how would I install an update?

It installs the updates wirelessly... go to the far right menu and there is a section in there for updates. General/software update/download and install.

I shut down HBO, Cinemax, and all the other premium channels and a host of other upgrades on my U-Verse in favor of just the Apple TV ($99 on time cost plus on demand costs as I use what I choose to watch and everything else free) and Netflix ($8 monthly). It's saved me hundreds of dollars in just the few months I've had it already.

Most recent blu-ray players can do all the same stuff Apple TV does, and play blu-ray and DVD.

Thanks for the info... I had Direct TV for almost 10 years. I ditched it when I moved, and do not have any TV now. Just high speed internet. Now I do have a Netflix account for $8 a month to watch movies/shows on my computer. Thinking about getting the Apple TV.

I still like movies and some programs, but I cannot justify paying $60 a month for about 300 channels that I hardly watch. Just don’t spend much time looking at TV anymore.
