Maybe six months ago I read an article that said Mr.Buckles was being considered for a high national honor. Maybe the Medal of Freedom, I’m not sure exactly which one.
Anyway, a federal government spokesman said the award was under consideration. But nothing was done. Fools! Now it is too late. What do they care?
May God be with Mr. Buckles.

Can’t believe Grandpa would be 116 next week!
He did make it to 95 though.
His uniform sits on the upper shelf in this home office.
Did ya know the Army had an Aero-maintence squadron in WWI?

RIP, Mr. Buckles.
My father was a WWI Navy vet. Were he alive today, he would be 114.

God bless Frank Buckles.
Had an old friend who was a WW1 vet when I was a teenager, taught me about everything I know about carpentry (Old school building and cabinet work).
When I was marking a piece of wood with a pencil to cut, I would always run the pencil against the straight edge a couple of times, finally one day he told me "You're going to cut it with the damn pencil or the saw".
He was a great old guy with a good sense of humor.

If I may share the last few lines of an Australian soldiers song in tribute here:
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men still answer the call
But as year follows year more old men disappear
Some day no one will march there at all
