I took it as they are trying to replace his current mug shot so the jury will see a different one. I also see this is the only place I have seen this news. Other media silent. Of course I have not looked elsewhere.

Thanks for the link to the article. Apparently, defense is trying to block the alternate mug shot, probably portrays him more as a criminal than a “crazy” guy (the photo we are familiar with). The media outlets are trying to get the court to unseal evidence seized from perp’s apartment. Prosecution is resisting this, as they should. It looks like a situation, as usual, of media pretending to be judge and jury and get ahead of the legal proceedings.
