George Clooney's recent humanitarian trip didn't end as smoothly as one would have hoped.
CNN host Piers Morgan took to Twitter on Thursday to say the actor contracted malaria following his recent trip to Sudan. This is said to be Clooney's second bout with the disease.
The actor was "taking medication, but feeling rough," added Morgan.
A rep for the actor confirms the report, telling the Daily News, "George is completely over the malaria he contracted while in the Sudan during the first week in January."
The actor made the statement during an interview on "Piers Morgan Tonight," which was pre-taped on Jan. 13 and will air Friday night at 9 p.m. EST.
“I don’t care for George Clooney’s politics, and I don’t respect him as a person. But I wouldn’t wish malaria on anyone. My dad had it growing up in the Deep Fork bottom of Okfuskee County, Oklahoma.”

I don’t respect Clooney for his ignorant and divisive political stances, but in terms of Sudan, he is actually putting a lot of money (and time) where his mouth is. He talks a lot about Sudan, and he backs it up by funding programs for the people there. Where he loses me is when he talks about the federal government needing to spend more money there. Not. Our. Problem. I wouldn’t mind sending some money directly to a family in need, but funneling it through the government is the most inefficient type of aid I can imagine.
Perhaps - but it was her stupid book based on faulty research. I think it is estimated that 1 million people, mainly children, die of Malaria each year.

He was outspoken in condemning the Sudanese regime for their
perpetration of atrocities against the non muslim south sudanese.
But anti-malarials are common and available. He should have
been taking the big tan tablets.
We all know the negatives about George Clooney, but he does walk the walk when it comes to his humanitarian work in the Sudan. He’s been doing more than anyone I’ve heard of to try to get the Darfur conflict stopped.

William Ruckelshaus played a key role in the travesty, in addition to all of the other environmental wackos who believed the lies of Rachel Carson. They're all scum and share in the responsibility for the deaths of tens of millions (mostly children).
I hate to tell George but you never get over it. It just lies dormant and crops up every 5-6 years for another go round. My father in law caught it in WWII and he was still getting attacks of it when he was 95 years old. Its like luggage you carry it around forever. I’m sorry to hear Clooney got it.
The drugs are better now than they were in WWII, but still not 100 percent effective. That said, if you follow the directions, you are fairly safe.

I don’t care for his politics but you’re right. I think he means well in his efforts. More than we can say for most. Sudan is in terrible shape. I know people that went to help in Haiti and I give them credit for getting their hands dirty.

He did a great job in both Oh Brother Where Art Thou, and Burn After Reading.
The meds are not a vaccine, they just inhibit the symptoms, in most cases.
...but for me, one well made movie doesn't make up for all the twisted, liberal bad movies & ridiculous quotes attributed to him.
