Fred Foy, the radio announcer best-known for calling out "Hi-Yo, Silver!" in his passionate lead-in to "The Lone Ranger" radio program, died Wednesday at his home in Woburn, Mass., of natural causes. He was 89.

RIP. Loved that show.
I worked in Woburm for a couple of years
Getting to be very, very few left around from the old days of radio. Can’t think of many offhand. I think Janet Waldo is still around. She starred in one of those teen comedies, either “A Date With Judy” or “Meet Corliss Archer.” And Alan Young is around, too. He starred in his own rather minor and rather forgotten radio series in the mid-40s. Probably a tiny handful of others.
I remember sitting in front of the radio as a little boy (I am now 63) and listening to that show.
“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts and minds of men? Da Shadow do.”....Flip Wilson
I loved that show! I think Sky King came on right after The Lone Ranger, which was also a great adventure show.
Bummer! Who’ll replace him in the program?
“A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty Hi-Yo Silver!”
“Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear”.
As a kid I wondered how far back was a `yesteryear’. I even believed that I was watching original 1873 film footage.
It all belongs to another time, now.
I heard this guy for years on radio saying “BUY LOW, SILVER!” I shoulda taken his advice.
RIP.
The same thing's going to be said about us years from now.........the old days of FreeRepublic".
ROFL-CGU.......
I still get the Lone Ranger online at http://radio.macinmind.com/. I’d say they play him a couple of times a week.
The introductory music is very long for a show. I’m surprised at how long they let it go on, considering they’re losing good story-telling time by playing such a long intro.
