Mel Gibson seeks to relaunch career with talking beaver hand puppet

The trailer for Gibson's new film, The Beaver, received its premiere on US television this weekend, amid doubts that it would be the ideal role to kick-start the actor's rehabilitation.

Gibson plays Walter Black, a lonely man who is depressed after being abandoned by his family. He begins communicating through the puppet, which he gives a personality and a British accent.

The film was directed by Jodie Foster, who co-stars as Gibson's wife Meredith. It is rumoured to be surprisingly good, despite its inauspicious premise.

The trailer says it all, and further words fail me.

It looks really lame.

I’m sure libs all over the place will flock to the theaters in droves to see it.

Meh, I thought the trailer was OK. It was certainly not as bad as all the stuff I’d pre-heard about the film. I think a lot of folks who justly have doubts about Gibson OFFscreen are transferring those doubts to his acting.

Still, I don’t think I will spend $12.50 to see it.

You were a little hard on the beaver last night, Mel.

*groan* But give props to Jodie Foster for seeming to stick by him (I guess!). Mel was a favorite of mine, but he needs to just retire already. Nobody needs to see him and he certainly doesn’t need the money. I think in time he can start directing again and stay behind the camera for the rest of his career.

Trailer seems good. At least it’s not about cowboys and pudding.

Jodie's an expert on beavers.

That was naughty...and made me laugh anyway. She is probably a good friend to Mel (Lord knows he could use one!).

I’m not sure what pushed Mel Gibson over the edge of sanity but his once thriving movie career is pretty much over due to his insane actions in real life that expose him as a racist bully - and that’s putting a polite twist on it. I seriously doubt this somewhat strange movie with another odd Hollywood personality, Jodie Foster, as the director and co-star will change Mel’s fortunes or his perception with the public as a nasty jerk, albeit a rich, good-looking nasty jerk.

I don’t know, if all of us were judged only on our worst moments we would likely all be out of a job. Fortunately for most of us those moments were not on tape or video.

So I heard that Mel and Jodie were reuniting for “Beaver”...and I thought, “Mel is a lucky, lucky man.”

"In vino veritas"

I actually like Mel Gibson. I'll be eternally grateful for "The Passion", which will be shown for the next 100 years. But I can't get behind the anti-Semitism he showed when pulled over for DUI. He sounded like a typical leftist.
