John Cougar Mellencamp, the famous crooner behind “Jack & Diane,” supported Obama in 2008 and even asked the McCain campaign to stop using his songs for rallies. But the AP reported Friday morning that the singer has been vocal in his admiration for someone else of late: Sarah Palin.
“The legendary rocker says that while he doesn't support her positions, he is impressed by the mark she's made on the country since the 2008 election,” the AP reports.

“The legendary rocker says..........” Johnny Cougar is a legend in his own mind, otherwise not.
It just occurred me that with this statement he’s probably condemned himself to a future of playing state fairs and small clubs in the middle of nowhere.
He did a huge concert at Walter Reed Hospital for the troops last year.
No chance Johnny Cougar! Sarah likes Conservative alpha-males and not guys who sing about little pink houses for everyone!

I know pretty much who those folks are and I'm sure John does too. Although he's not a relative ~ (his family has not been in America long enough for that) ~ we do have cousins who have mutual relatives. The connection with the Palins is one of history, neighbors, and church.
Alaska is not like some foreign country ~ more like a recent "colony" that attracted some mighty aggressive but otherwise exceedingly poor people who could stand the climate. The ties are still fresh. Ted Stevens grew up in the same neighborhood with my Dad for example and is a cousin through the Scalf family connection. Hale Boggs was a relative through multiple lines. Other relatives are big time in flying bush aircraft, working on Palin campaigns (and in the state house in Juneau), and even "on the other side" ~ (the fat readhead who harrasses Sarah is one of 'em).
John Mellencamp is going to treat them like they are real human beings ~ wouldn't you? Heck, I even treat John like he's a real human being.
Someday these ties will be forgotten of course, so we can kick them all in the teeth eh! But not now; not yet.
I’ve always respected his not getting caught up in the whole LA stardom scene. He probably would’t mind just playing state fairs.

He dropped that from his stage name DECADES ago. It was a tack on by some music industry exec anyway IIRC - because “Mellencamp” sounded too country.
As to his music, haven't heard anything that good from him in a long time, but I liked “Human Wheels”.
Good for him in saying the obvious.
Sarah Palin is smart. Take that to the bank.
Could she know more? Certainly? Is she learning? I hope so!
I eagerly await her performance in the debates, but otherwise, she is my candidate for 2012!
