If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Gibson should give the proceeds to Michigan State Sofa families that have lost loved ones.
As to the ball he hit for that home run, you can bet that someone generally unknown has it and is preserving it for future sale. By 1988, sports memorabilia had become a lucrative business so whoever got that ball in the stands would have had to be foolish to treat it as an ordinary baseball.
Actually the proceeds from the sale of these items will go to an MSU scholarship fund in his name. So he is not that bad after all.
Just a myth! I know he wasn't the best liked guy in the world and probably got into some brawls, but I doubt if baseball stars even back then could kill people without legal consequences. There is no historical record of any such event to the best of my knowledge.
He may have some gripe with the ownership of the Dodgers at the time he played for them (which has changed hands twice since then). Recall that his career went downhill after that historic home run. He was also victim of an armed robbery off the field while a Dodgers player.

My son was the recipient of Kirk Gibson's partial scholarship as a graduating senior and a member of the baseball team at Waterford Kettering in 1995. Thank you very much Kirk Gibson!
Nice!
Seems like that should have done the trick, but here I am, heckling him about it, decades after his death.
Supposedly took place on an elevator, three men got on with him and started in, one of them he merely knocked the hell out of, the other two he beat to death and spat on their bodies. Then Reggie Jackson got on the elevator at the next stop, and he had a doberman on a leash...
But of course, yes, it could easily be an untrue story.
Thanks! That homer led to a remarkable (and quite temporary) recovery of his health. ;’)
Could be he’s holding it in reserve, for later sales, when the 30th (or 40th) anniversary of the Tigers’ most recent World Series title rolls around. But I think he’s probably saving it for when he’s inducted into the Hall of Fame (should that happen).
Don’t think Gibson will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. His career statistics aren’t good enough.
“I don’t believe what I have just seen.”
He owes nobody an explanation as to why he is holding on to some of his stuff. I think his attitude has improved over the years. A few years ago, I and my son saw him at the ballpark and he was quite kind to my son - even having a short conversation with him about little league baseball.
When he hit the home run, there was a roar from loads of apartments. Unbelievable. I don't think Gibson played in the rest of the series.
A great sports moment.
