I live in San Francisco, and I think you all know what that implies. I am a dyed-in-the-wool liberal and nearly everyone I interact with daily is as well. I read Free Republic most days to try to understand why Obamacare is so hated, and why the Ground Zero Mosque is taking such flak. And to be honest, I understand most of the viewpoints here. I don't agree, but I understand. The only one I don't understand is the very, very strong opposition to illegal immigration. Is it strictly a legal opposition? Workers that flaunt our laws at the border are likely to flaunt others? Or are there other reasons? I promise not to post again... so the zotting is a foregone response. I am just very interested in exactly why you feel that illegal immigration is so wrong.
Illegals come here looking for a better life. But they take cuts in line and demand you pay for their better life. If you are waiting in line for a hot dog at a SF Giants game. You have been waiting for 10... 12... 15 minutes... and are about to get to the front to get your hot dog.. and here comes 30 or 40 people who take cuts in the line and then demand that you pay for their hot dog. The way you would feel approximates the way people feel about illegal immigrants.
You know, It’s my Birthday and it’s Constitution Day.

I don’t “feel” illegal aliens breaking into my country is wrong,
I “know” it’s illegal and I do not want any undocumented persons here, period, no matter the county of origin.
I’m not running out of water and I have two lifesaver bottles to purify any water I find.

What is in short supply are honest intellectuals who can see down the road and plan for it’s eventuality.
Illegal aliens use services while getting paid under the table. Their children go to public schools, they may pay taxes but they cost far more than they deliver.
They get free medical care. Hospitals are required by law to treat people who come in the emergency room. On the border, Mexican ambulances bring in people that have to be treated. Not just minor stuff but things like organ transplants. America has become the free hospital to Mexico and Central America. As a result, emergency rooms are overloaded and hospitals are closing across the country because of all the unreimbursed care they have to dish out. Our health care system is collapsing because of all the illegal aliens it has to treat.

My one ray of sunshine is the hope this thread will turn humorous.
But, it won’t as the premise of the subject is idiotic and the poster doesn’t even have a name we can make fun of.
Brain Drain of poorer country youth. You know a poor Country spends it money educating its young people and then they go off to another Country for more money.
Another reason is it take away jobs from people who are here legally, and that includes many blacks and Latinos as well as everbody else.
Illegals drive up the costs the States have to bear. You see when an illegal has kids, they go.....
to school and the State pays for it,
to a hospital and the State pays for it
to a jail and the State pays for it
Not the feds. Like 30 percent of State Prisons populations are illegals.
The Federal Government on the other hand only gets mostly the benefits of illegals, like the taxes the employers pay and so forth. And guess who controls the border? The Federal Government

1) We are a society based around law, not tribes. Disrespect for the law is damaging in and of itself, but also a) it leads to future lawbreaking, and b) it leads to a sense of privilege for the tribe allowed to get away with it.
2) Our forefathers came over here and did the hard job of entering legally, so to allow others to flaunt the law is to urinate on the legacy of our ancestors.
3) Due to the overwhelming number of illegal Mexican immigrants, we now have a separate culture within our borders. A nation with more than one language and culture is not one that is united.
4) It forces Americans out of jobs. Two examples: a) we could have been developing more automation technology for agriculture. Just imagine how this industry could have cushioned the fall of our automotive industry! b) just talk to someone in the building trades what the impact of illegal immigration has been.
5) Legal immigrants are sponsored. The sponsor is supposed to make sure the immigrant is not a troublemaker. Illegals have no sponsor, and because of the socio-economic class the vast majority belong to, they get into lots and lots of trouble. This has caused huge problems with crime, and many citizen victims.
6) It creates a new underclass in America. They are separate, yet taken advantage of for menial labor tasks. We fought a bloody war in the 1800 to get past that.
7) It creates a huge underclass in America that overwhelms our social services to the point of bankruptcy.
8) IT IS ILLEGAL, YOU DOPE! WE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO JUSTIFY THE EXISTENCE OF LONG-STANDING, COMMON-SENSE LAWS YOU LIBS WANT TO BREAK!!!

How about this: My wife is here from another counrty, we did all the paper work, paid the fees, and on and on. It took over a year for her to come here. Once here I had to ensure she had a means of support by law. Illegals enter and can go straight on a goverment program. That is one of the reasons I have a problem with illegals.
The people here illegally are not the real criminals. They are simply the cannon fodder for two groups that are equally bad:
- Country-club Republicans who want cheap labor
- Dems who want to build a reliable vote bank
