Why would any thinking human voluntarily be permanently stained with some cheesy "clipart" that used to be reserved for tourist t-shirt shops?
Tattooing is RIDICULOUS. Wallpaper you walk around in and can never change. A blight that looks akin to a hemotoma or varicose explosion without close inspection.
Tattooing is UGLY. I'll say it. It is a sideshow low class defilement of one's perfectly evolved and largest organ-- the miraculous skin. People take their gift of healthy skin and WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, BY DESIGN..unblemished, glowing...for granted.
Why is this fact lost on so many? Too many have switched off their judgement filter to follow the cultural abominations of the day...how shallow humans have become--maybe we always have been shallow.
Tattoos are a hideous, coarse, stupid insult perpetuated by idiots and short term thinkers.
And in advance to counter the "hip" ( though I'd say, the lemming clueless) arguments--NO, they are NOT beautiful ART, beautiful expressions ...blah blah blah, woof woof.
They are cheesy, absurd, CLIP ART....CLIP ART!! THE MARK OF MASS PRODUCED LOW BROW ECONOMY illustrations that grow tired and trite on one's faded hip hop, metal or vacation t-shirt.
I do not care about so-called "originals" either...it is all DUMB, illustrated CRAP...the best that can be said is that some techniques rival the engravings on print currency. So the techniques have become pretty darn precise. So, Oh boy, let's go get lots of THAT permanently plastered across our poor skin.
What has happened to humans--are we slamming into reverse? Going tribal, base-drives of sheer effect, no substance, restraint is out of style...FLASH is the religion?

For some reason we gravitate to the lowest common denominator when the moral compass is set aside...
Like you white kids in baggy pants listening to rap and acting like thugs.
Back when I taught college a few years ago at the beginning of this trend, I would have kids complain that folks were discriminating against them because of their “body art”. I told them that many who would hire them were from a generation that had personal discernment and respect about themselves and found tats to be the thing of old sailors and long shore men, not professionals. “Body art” is not a protected class...
Tattoos on women disgust me.
Total turn off.

It was a heart with wings. I loved it. Now my other granddaughter (who is 22) wants grandma to go with her to a good tattoo parlor and get a small one on my shoulder with her....
Whats a grandma to do? I am thinking about it. My grand kids all think I am the funniest grandma in the world and 2 of them wrote stories about me being their hero. (Blush) It was in the 8th grade.
The only unwrinkled parts of my body (yuk) are my shoulders....
What do you think I should do....I am 71 and have never had a tattoo....but might be senile a little. LOL
Everytime I see a young girl with a tat, my first thought is, “Do you realize how stupid that is going to look when you’re 70?”

I hope you are right...I am startled more and more often these days by a clerk who turns around with a face full of piercings.
Tattoo’s on anyone turn me off. Nothing so stupid as to get drunk and have a cartoon painted on your body.
Those who do it when sober are even more stupid.

In the ‘olden’ days, we changed hairdo’s, outfits, accessories to try to be ‘different’ and stand out from the crowd (or fit in, as the case may be). These days, busy working parents throw money at their children and allow them to destroy their future job options with this tatoo/piercing nonsense. The worst I’ve seen is young girl, maybe 20, with pirate symbols on her legs, arms, and back. So, Pirates of the Caribbean is going to be your favorite movie for all time??????
A friend of my son, beautiful girl, got ‘snakebites’ - lip piercings that are supposed to look like snake fangs. Her parents gave her the money and permission (under 18) to get these.
Parents are supposed to protect their children from stupid things that will spoil their future. At least make them wait till they are out of your house and have a job with health insurance!
Would not even tip into the considration column for me ( in case that surprises you!).
I cannot IMAGINE the wisdom or value of having a stupid cartoon illustration permanently engraved anywhere on my body.
It would aggravate the heck out of me to be permanently BRANDED like usda grade beef by some mediocre tattoo “artist” ( yeah right) with a mindless, shallow CARTOON.
Course, it’s a free country...you can contribute to the acceptance of the stupidity or you can make a stand by staying pure.
However I did think The Illustrated Man was pretty cool. If I could have THOSE tats...
If you do it, make sure you go to a reputable place that runs a clean shop. Don’t want any nasty diseases or infections at any age.
And for your granddaughter, if she goes through with it, encourage her to get it in a place that can be easily and completely covered.
Shoulder might seem like a good place but she may end up limiting herself in clothing selection depending on where she ends up in life.

For the women out there, us men have two words for tattoos on women...tramp stamp. I know many won't like hearing it but that's what men say to each other about tattoos on women. So young women contemplating a tattoo, especially one that is visible to others, can look forward to being called that for the rest of their lives.
Not that it's particularly a good thing for a man to get one. Usually men get tattoos after a drunken night out on the town. Thus a tattoo separates the men that can hold their liquor from those that can't.
Lastly, it amuses me to see people who inflict tattoos on others refer to themselves as "tattoo artists." What a joke. More accurately, they are in the business of mutilating other people's bodies.
Remind her that temporary tattoos can be seasonal; permanents ones are there until they turn into a blue-ish blur. Why does she want one?
Some of the tattoo parlors around here have closed, so it’s not quite as in vogue now. Saw a tattoo parlor that was advertising removal; apparently more people are regretting their salute to primitive tribalism.
No. The entire subject—and the fact that this is even a desirable option—just reminds me how limited the human capacity for wisdom is.
Depressing.
