Countering Islamophobia claims: (Vanity)
What Eagle Lurks in the Heart of Me | 16 August 2010 | Combat_Boots

Posted on 08/16/2010 1:21:57 PM PDT by combat_boots

I have studied Islam for decades and almost became a Muslim. I have read the original texts, jurisprudence, historians, and scholars.

Read. Orientalists like Bernard Lewis. Modernists like Samuel Huntington. Natives like Fareed Zakaria or other, recent books. Check sites like Islaminaction’s, Pam Geller’s, Richard Poe, Steve Emerson’s, or “TelltheChildrenthe Truth.” Learn Taqiyya. Find the 5 tenets and their counterparts in Western culture. Refute. Rebutt. Return arguments. And, decide whether you will give all, because, in reality, you may well have to.

Specific questions to fire back with, given here as a starting point for your own 10-point plan:

1) Given that Jews and Christians are considered “People of the Book” with common traditions, according to Islam & Islamic tradition, how do you justify hatred for Jews and killing of Christians?

2) How is the West not based on Christian principles? How is an appeal to ad populum, i.e., everyone else is doing it, or an appeal to authority not a simple shirking of conviction of Western values?

3) How is Islam not inimical to women’s and gay or libertarian mindsets and values?

4) How is US death penalty procedure in any way compatible with beheading and stoning practices in Islamic culture?

5) How is Shar’ia permissible in any tenet espousing separation of Church and State?

6) Which scientific achievements are Islamic since the rise of Islam? Inventions? Technologies?

7) What value does the tribal primus inter pares governing tradition have over constitutional authority and representative government?

8) How does Islam not pretend to include Christian beliefs in part in order to assuage Christian fears? How is asserting that Muhammad ascended into Heaven not simply copy-catting and trying to sway belief by stealing it? How is Muhammad himself in any way laudable?

9) Are you willing to die for your beliefs as some Muslims are? If not, why not? Do you not simply espouse an accusation of “Islamophobia” in order to disguise your own cowardliness in the face of giving all for your own beliefs? Or for Christ?

10) Have you ever read and compared the Bible and the Quran? If not, why not? Do you not realize that Westerners are not taught the suras about the hatred of infidels and the necessity of killing them? How is such a belief in any way ‘religious,’ legal, or otherwise able to be endorsed by any Western culture?

BTW, someone reminded me, too, that, when possible, to read in the original Arabic....or get a translation that is accurate, not one transformed or disguised to hide from Westerners.....

Please pass this along if you so choose, from ‘a FRiend.’

Know thy enemy. He has studied you well and thinks you can be bought or subdued by force. Or, tricked. And, finally, killed.

Time to resurrect this:

VIOLENCE IN THE KORAN AND THE BIBLE (very long, but, worthwhile)

On a side note, a freerepublic archive search did not find this article. I had to use google.

My counter;

“We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren’t punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That’s war. And this is war.” - Ann Coulter

Re: your point #8. I read an interesting article (can’t find it now) that stated that Islam was basically a copy-cat religion, as you state. Muhammed only knew Judaism and Christianity - both as revealed, prophetic religions, and simply created a pirated version of both, albeit acceptable to the mores and culture of Arab Tribes.

where to go for more info on this subject?

I do not read Arabic, so all my readings of the Koran have been in the English translation. I have watched a video series on Islam by someone that does know Arabic and the Koran. He used to be a Muslim. I have learned much about Islam from this guy. What many people do not know is that there are many traditions in Islam that are not explicitly stated in the Koran. My conclusion concerning Islam is that it is a violent and brutal religion that is incompatible with Christianity and Western democracy. If anyone would like to see this series on Islam, it is available via the Internet without cost. I had nothing to do with the series, and I receive no financial benefits from this series on Islam. I say this because I do not want people to think that I am trying to advertise it. I found it helpful in understanding Islam.

I have a problem with the word “Islamophobia”. A phobia is an irrational fear. Given its history, I believe fear of Islam is anything but irrational.

I must have gotten that from somewhere. The footprints of Muhammad on the rock where he supposedly ascended into Heaven are what got to me originally though. I have never understood why it was necessary to claim to have footprints, let alone to mark stride for stride with the ascendancy into Heaven concept, akin to resurrection. He was in no way crucified, although he would have been happy to crucify others....as Muslims sometimes do now.

Hundreds of thousands of people have rallied in Istanbul in support of secularism in Turkey

"We want neither Sharia, nor a coup, but a fully democratic Turkey."

Islamophobe!

D'oh! No wait.. Turkey is 99+ percent Muslim -- they (all but a few?) don't want Islamism and Sharia law either.

And 90% don’t want to live next door to Christians either...

And why is it that Christian priests are so often killed there, Christian properties are seized, and Christians lose their jobs when their faith is discovered..?

And why is Mein Kampf a bestseller there?

If you really want to know how a muslim feels then look at how he treats those infidels he has power over. It is rarely a pretty sight. You may find people in Constantinople who are only muslim in name, but those are the minority even in Turkey.

This idea that the fundamentalists are a tiny minority is just a soothing fantasy.

Sorry.. but I gotta respond. Your statements were so emphatic.

I lived in Ankara for about a year. Turkey is 99.9 percent Muslim. (See link below.) I am aware that other than Muslims have been victims but -- unless you have proof otherwise -- I do not believe that it is a campaign of suppression. Turks did seem to be adverse to permitting proselytizing. It's their republic, their constitution.

It's true that in the past decade Turkey has become divided along the lines of the ruling Islamist AKP (controls the executive and legislative branches) v. the Kemalists and European-style secularists.

There's an important constitutional referendum election next month (I believe it's in Sept.) that could give the AKP the ability to take control of the courts.

The AKP was elected promising to clean up corruption, restore the economy, and they promised the voters they'd eschew Islamism. After being re-elected a couple of years ago they have moved sharply toward Islamism.

About a third of Turks say that they will not tolerate Islamism.

There's trouble a brewin' -- not entirely unlike what we are experiencing here vis-a-vis our "progressive" government in D.C. IMO.
