I live in the Chicago metro area, but not in the city.

The incident is the first fatal mauling by a grizzly bear in the area in 25 years, and the first such fatal attack to take place at a site where researchers had recently trapped and released a bear.
The important point is "released". The rest of the article is a study in evasion of this point: that the man was killed by a bear recently INTRODUCED into the area. The first in 25 years! Now we have the second in 2 months, along with some minor maiming.
This is like JAWS upside down.
When I visit bear country, I just bring along my pet hippo for protection...
